Director of Software Development

Amazon Web Services is seeking a Director of Software Development to lead a team across North America and Europe building systems for cooling, power, telemetry and monitoring, and operational visibility across AWS’ global data centers. In this role you will work backwards from a diverse set of engineering and operational use cases, and partner with leaders and builders across our data center ecosystem - from design engineering and mechanical/electrical engineering to controls engineering and engineering operations technicians. You will lead conceptualization of new software systems and evolution of existing software services, and deliver results through software development teams. You will partner with peer leaders across the broader data center team to align on strategic direction, and serve as a technical advisory voice to influence senior infrastructure leadership. And, of course, you will also be a people leader focused on hiring and growth of leaders and engineers on your team.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain - and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

• 10+ years of software development experience

• 10+ years in senior engineering leadership roles

• 10+ years experience driving long-term engineering and product decisions

• Track record of delivering innovative cloud-based applications

• Proven ability to hire and develop an inclusive organization

• Experience scaling diverse, highly dynamic, and fast-growing technical and product teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building software systems for the devices, sensors and control systems domains.

• Experience solving customer and technical problems with durable, scalable solutions over multi-year, multi-billion dollar, and multi-organization impact.

• Desire and ability to inspire and influence at all levels.

• Experience driving complex, cross-organizational projects
