Job description

This isn’t a role where you’ll own a single microservice or spend months implementing tickets handed down from layers of management. You’ll build software. Real software.

You’ll work across our stack-from PostgreSQL and Python APIs to Angular applications, infrastructure, cloud deployments, automation, and everything in between.

One week you may be designing a new API. The next you might optimize a database query handling billions of records, improve deployment automation, build an Angular feature, or help design the architecture for an entirely new product. We believe great engineers enjoy solving problems, regardless of where they exist in the stack.

What You’ll Build

You’ll help design and develop systems including:

  • Enterprise APIs
  • Modern Angular web applications
  • FastAPI and Python backend services
  • PostgreSQL databases and data pipelines
  • Cloud-hosted production infrastructure
  • Internal operational tooling
  • Automation systems
  • AI-assisted engineering workflows

As we continue to grow, you’ll also help influence our engineering standards, architecture, tooling, and technical direction.

We Value Engineers Over Specialists

Technology changes. Great engineers don’t. We’re far more interested in how you approach problems, how quickly you learn, and how much ownership you take than whether you’ve memorized every framework currently in fashion.

Our technology stack will continue to evolve. We expect our engineers to evolve with it.

AI Is Part of Our Engineering Culture

Modern AI has fundamentally changed software development. At Pathfinder, AI isn’t viewed as a shortcut-it’s a force multiplier.

We expect our engineers to use AI to:

  • Accelerate development
  • Explore architectural ideas
  • Generate tests
  • Improve documentation
  • Debug difficult problems
  • Learn unfamiliar technologies
  • Automate repetitive work

Great engineering judgment still matters. We believe the best engineers combine strong fundamentals with the ability to leverage modern AI tools effectively.

We Move Fast

We’re intentionally building a small, highly capable engineering team.

That means:

  • Very little bureaucracy
  • High trust
  • High ownership
  • Fast decision making

You’ll regularly move between frontend development, backend services, databases, infrastructure, and production deployments.

Technologies We Use

We’re interested in engineers who are excited to work across technologies such as:

  • Python
  • Angular
  • PostgreSQL
  • REST APIs
  • Linux
  • Docker
  • Git
  • Nginx
  • Cloud infrastructure
  • Security best practices, * Which AI tools are part of your daily workflow, and how have they changed the way you build software?
  • Tell us about a production issue you’ve experienced. What happened, and what did you learn?
  • What aspect of software engineering do you enjoy most?
  • If you have GitHub projects, personal work, talks, or anything you’re particularly proud of, we’d love to see it.

If you’re excited by ownership, motivated by impact, and passionate about building exceptional software with a small, talented team, we encourage you to apply.

Pay: $140,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year

Requirements

Experience with technologies such as Rust, asynchronous programming, data engineering, CI/CD, and distributed systems is a plus-but curiosity and adaptability matter more than checking every box., We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Enjoys solving difficult technical problems
  • Takes pride in writing clean, maintainable code
  • Is comfortable owning projects from idea through production
  • Communicates well with both engineers and customers
  • Learns quickly
  • Enjoys working on a small, collaborative team

Experience in the music industry is not required. Passion for building exceptional software is.

Please note: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. This position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.

About the company

At Pathfinder Royalties, we’re building modern software that brings greater transparency, automation, and intelligence to the global music rights ecosystem. Every day, our systems process millions of recordings and compositions, helping organizations better understand and manage complex music rights data.

We’re a profitable, engineering-driven company with real customers, meaningful revenue, and an ambitious roadmap. We’re still early enough that every engineer has an opportunity to shape both the product and the culture for years to come. We’re looking for someone excited by that opportunity.
