Job description
Technical Solutions Inc is currently seeking an Industrial Automation Field Systems Engineer on behalf of our client, a manufacture with facilities in the Pittsburgh area. Field Service Engineers will be responsible for meeting the daily service maintenance and repair needs of our client’s equipment as well as participate in working on small engineering projects of various degrees. Duties:
- Basic troubleshooting, installation, maintenance and repair on designated equipment.
- Completing Preventative Maintenance and field modifications.
- Keeping up to date on administrative responsibilities such as maintaining customer service logs & internal service records in a timely manner.
- Maintaining daily communications with customers to ensure resolution and proper follow-up.
- Identifying and participating in sales opportunities such as new contracts, contract renewals, & system sales.
- Emergency call out service on a rotating schedule.
Requirements
- 2 years of management experience.
- 5+ years of field service experience.
- Aptitude in troubleshooting/configuring PLC hardware (Allen Bradley, Siemens S7, Micrologix, Compact logix, Point IO and GE) both digital & analog IO.
- PLC software experience with Allen Bradely RSLOGIX 5000, Siemens TIA portal.
- Aptitude in troubleshooting/configuring drives (Siemens, ABB, and Allen Bradley).
- Aptitude in troubleshooting/configuring and/or HMI packages is a plus.
- Familiar with AC and DC motor theory, construction, installation, maintenance motor feedback devices, encoders (incremental, absolute), resolvers, analog tachs.
- Knowledgeable with electrical theory, both AC and DC.
- Knowledgeable with sensors used in automation: prox switches, limit switches, laser sensors, thermal sensors (thermocouples) etc.
- Understand analog control circuits (4-20ma, 0-10vdc) & digital circuits
- Understand ladder logic, both hardware and in PLC.
- Drives, both AC (VFD) and DC (SCR).
- Automation components: relays, contactors, starters.
- Troubleshooting skills with meters, scope, current and voltage sources.
- Experience with working and understanding safety practices when using 120/230/480 vac both 1 phase and 3 phase, along with 500vdc circuits.
- Fundamental network knowledge.
- Experience in metals processing is strongly preferred.
- Willingness and desire to participate in ongoing training to maintain technical competence in automation products, software, and complementary areas.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Word, Excel, and Visio.
- Communication skills both written and verbal are required.
- Ability to travel 50-70% of the time domestically.
Requirements:
- Engineering degree or equivalent experience in industrial automation.
- Qualified entry-level candidates will be considered.
