Job description

Insight Global partners with a large local utility company and is looking for a Principal Data Engineer to serve as a technical leader responsible for shaping, designing, and advancing enterprise-scale data infrastructure and data engineering solutions. This position leads complex, high-impact data and analytics initiatives and provides technical expertise across data architecture, data quality, metadata management, and platform scalability. The Principal Data Engineer works cross-functionally to translate complex business requirements into integrated data solutions, drives data engineering standards and best practices, and leads continuous improvement efforts through performance optimization and automation. While this is not a people management role, the engineer will lead virtual teams, mentor other engineers, and provide hands-on guidance for complex, multi-platform technical challenges, including the deployment of advanced analytics and machine learning solutions at scale.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS 10+ years of experience in enterprise data engineering, ETL ecosystems, and working across multiple data platforms and architectures. Experience designing scalable, reliable enterprise data infrastructure and translating complex business requirements into integrated data solutions. Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical teams and complex, enterprise-scale data and analytics initiatives. Experience establishing data engineering standards and driving performance optimization, automation, and continuous improvement. Experience providing hands-on technical guidance for complex, multi-platform challenges. Experience supporting advanced analytics and machine learning deployment at scale. Strong communication, presentation, collaboration, analytical, and strategic decision-making skills.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

the data engineer role will focus on managing end-to-end data processes, including integration with Foundry, and that experience with Foundry, Snowflake, Power Applications, and PG&E is highly desired.
