Job description
We are looking for a Data Engineer to support a federal healthcare program, including data integration, reporting, modernization, and operational data support. This role is responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving data pipelines, data integrations, data quality controls, reporting datasets, and technical documentation that support secure, reliable, and mission-focused data operations., * Design, develop, test, and maintain data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, data integrations, and database routines that support federal healthcare systems.
- Build and support ingestion, transformation, validation, storage, and delivery of structured and semi-structured data from multiple source systems.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, scripts, data models, and reusable data engineering components.
- Support data quality checks, reconciliation processes, exception handling, issue tracking, and root cause analysis for production and non-production data issues.
- Partner with product owners, business analysts, developers, testers, architects, DevOps engineers, and security teams to understand data needs and deliver practical solutions.
- Prepare source-to-target mappings, data dictionaries, interface documentation, lineage notes, runbooks, and other technical documentation.
- Support data access, privacy, security, logging, audit readiness, and compliance requirements in a highly regulated environment.
- Assist with cloud-based data services, data migration, system modernization, and performance improvement activities.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, backlog refinement, testing support, deployment readiness, and release activities.
- Troubleshoot data defects, performance issues, failed jobs, broken interfaces, and other operational data problems.
Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
· 2+ years of experience in data engineering, database development, ETL/ELT development, data integration, business intelligence, or related technical work.
· Strong experience with SQL, relational databases, data modeling concepts, data transformation logic, and query optimization.
· Experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python, Java, Scala, shell scripting, or similar languages.
· Experience developing and maintaining data pipelines, batch processes, interfaces, APIs, or file-based data exchanges.
· Understanding of data quality, metadata, lineage, access controls, privacy, security, and compliance concepts.
· Experience working in Agile delivery environments and using tools such as Jira, Confluence, Git, or similar platforms.
· Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, time management, and teamwork skills.
· Ability to support federal government clients or highly regulated environments.
· Ability to obtain and maintain required public trust or client-required background suitability clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience supporting federal healthcare, federal marketplace, eligibility, enrollment, claims, financial management, program integrity, or public sector data environments.
· Experience with AWS data services such as Amazon S3, RDS, Redshift, Glue, Lambda, CloudWatch, or related cloud services.
· Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, Informatica, Talend, Airflow, dbt, Tableau, Power BI, or similar data platforms and tools.
· Experience with data governance, data cataloging, data stewardship, and source-to-target mapping documentation.
· Experience supporting DevSecOps, automated testing, release management, audit evidence, or production operations.
· Federal consulting experience and ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
