Job description

Oversee the planning, development, deployment, and maintenance of custom software applications and related initiatives that support business objectives for Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona (GCNA) and its affiliated entities. Provides technical and people leadership in the analysis, design, implementation, and ongoing improvement of computing systems software. As a collaborative member of the IT management team, partners with peers across the organization to assess business requirements, align solutions with best practices, established budget, and organizational policies. Oversees software engineering projects, contribute hands-on technical expertise as needed, and guides Team Members through technical direction, documentation, cross-functional collaboration, professional development, and the delivery of effective software solution., * Oversee the development and maintenance of custom applications and software, web-based and desktop-based.

  • Apply the principles and techniques of software engineering to specific organizational needs and problems.
  • Responsible for assisting with software development as the need arises.
  • Provides technical expertise and guidance to the team, assisting with problem-solving and technical challenges.
  • Detects and repairs errors in data and program structure, logic, and coding.
  • Drives process improvement and cost savings initiatives through evaluating current processes, identifying best practices, developing plans to reach goals and implement improvements, continuously developing tools/systems and automating processes.
  • Monitors project progress and addresses issues or risks that may arise.
  • Analyzes workflow and assigns or schedules work to meet priorities and goals.
  • Makes decisions on matters relating to the day-to-day operation within his/her defined area including the strategic planning of resources.
  • Ensure operating costs are managed to budget.
  • Partners with organization departments and/or third parties when large projects or company-wide initiatives need to be scheduled and executed.
  • Communicates goals and objectives and other important information to assigned Team Members.
  • Builds and manages strong working relationships with Team Members.
  • Responsible for performance management (coaching, discipline, performance improvement plans, and annual reviews), staffing, compensation, and development of Team Members.
  • Maintains regular and consistent in-person attendance.
  • Plays critical role in driving company culture change efforts and change management processes.

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer/information science or equivalent combination of education and work experience preferred
  • Strong hands-on experience with PHP, JavaScript, and associated frameworks
  • 5+ years’ experience managing software engineering teams, including work prioritization, coaching, and performance management of teams of 3 or more team members
  • 5+ years’ experience developing and supporting web-based applications
  • 2+ years’ experience leading software projects through planning, execution, and delivery
  • Ability to communicate effectively with business stakeholders, translating technical concepts into clear, non-technical language and aligning solutions to business needs
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms and modern software delivery practices
  • Proficiency with Git and GitHub, including branching, pull requests, code review, merging, conflict resolution, and repository management
  • Strong working knowledge of modern programming languages and ability to contribute in a multi-language environment
  • Hands-on experience with Linux-based systems and command-line interface (CLI) tools for server management and deployment
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms, preferably AWS, including services such as CloudFormation, EC2, S3, RDS, and Lambda
  • Experience with Agile and DevOps methodologies, object-oriented design, Model/View/Controller (MVC) architecture, and Unified Modeling Language (UML)
  • Experience with relational database technologies and strong SQL skills
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen, where applicable for the position
  • Ability to obtain or currently retain a Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Ability to speak and read English proficiently
