Own the software that moves human capability forward. Based in Leeds with hybrid working, this Embedded Software Engineer role leads firmware for advanced prosthetics and internal tools. £60,000-£65,000 plus strong benefits, flexible onsite rhythm, and real authority to set standards across a regulated, high-impact product portfolio.
Scope of the Role:
As Embedded Software Engineer, you will stabilise legacy code and shape future architecture across mechatronic devices. You’ll partner with electronics, mechanical and manufacturing to deliver reliable control in real products.
- Own product firmware from concept to fielded release.
- Own internal tool software for test rigs and manufacturing.
- Define specifications, risk assessments and traceability.
- Lead source control, build and documentation standards.
- Manage external partners and upskill colleagues.
Requirements
- Proven delivery in mechatronic products as Embedded Software Engineer or Firmware Engineer.
- Real-time control with sensors, motors, peripherals and RTOS or bare metal; confident with lab equipment.
- Regulated discipline with documentation, change control, hazard thinking and release quality.
- Function ownership, clear trade-offs, strong communication to non software stakeholders.
- Version control leadership, CI and release governance beyond daily Git usage.
