Job description

This is a Series A AI platform for financial services whose flagship product autonomously prepares tax returns for CPA and accounting firms. The company launched to a waiting list of over 4,000 accounting firms after operating in stealth with 40% of the Top 20 CPA firms, delivering 99% accuracy and saving up to 98% of preparation time compared to manual workflows. The company is rapidly accelerating toward $100M ARR and is backed by Oak HC/FT, a16z, Founders Fund, General Catalyst, Khosla Ventures, and Trust Ventures, along with notable angels including the former CEO of Thomson Reuters, the founder of PayPal and Affirm, and other prominent figures in fintech.

This role sits at the intersection of tax, information architecture, and AI-enabled technology design. Tax Technical Specialists join the Information Architecture team as tax domain experts, collaborating with CPAs, architects, engineers, and AI engineers to deliver the next generation of AI-enabled innovation for financial services. You will spend significant time in Excel and Codex, writing technical requirements like a technical PM translating complex tax concepts into a single source of truth: an opinionated data model that captures how tax actually works in the U.S., not just how the IRS has codified it. You are the bridge between the tax brain and the engineering brain.

What You’ll Own:

  • Translate tax rules, regulatory guidance, and accounting concepts into structured data models, business rules, and computational logic
  • Research complex tax and regulatory guidance from authoritative sources to define requirements, taxonomies, rule sets, and integration workflows for tax automation
  • Build the canonical model: every form, every institution, every line item maps back to one consistent source of truth
  • Explain complex tax and accounting concepts to non-CPA technical stakeholders including architects, engineers, and AI engineers
  • QA system logic to ensure outputs match expected behavior faulty logic, not hallucination, is the focus
  • Use AI tools (Claude Code, Codex) daily to accelerate the delivery of models and implementation artifacts

Requirements

  • CPA with 2+ tax seasons (1.5+ years on the floor, experienced tax associate level or above) with end-to-end exposure to workpapers, review, and filing of 1040, 1065, and fiduciary returns
  • High-net-worth tax depth: familiar with K-1s, partnerships, loss limitations, nonpassive activity classifications, grouping elections, and basis tracking pure C-Corp backgrounds do not clear
  • Beginner-or-better coding fluency: can read and write code in at least one language; familiar with data structures (arrays, maps, linked lists), OOP concepts (classes, inheritance, encapsulation), and foreign keys
  • Can write algorithms explaining tax logic to non-CPAs and document workflows in diagram form
  • AI-native: uses Claude Code, Codex, or comparable AI tooling daily as production tools, not just experimentally
  • NYC Metro hybrid (primary); Austin secondary come in when needed

Benefits & conditions

  • Backed by a16z, Founders Fund, General Catalyst, Khosla Ventures, and Oak HC/FT elite investor syndicate with deep fintech conviction
  • Rapidly accelerating toward $100M ARR with 40% of the Top 20 CPA firms already as customers this is not a speculative bet
  • First-of-its-kind AI tax automation platform genuinely category-defining work at the intersection of tax and AI
  • Role sits at the technical core of the product you are shaping the data model and logic that powers the entire platform
  • Ideal for a CPA who wants to be on the bleeding edge of tax disruption rather than riding out another decade of incremental change
  • Platinum, 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • One Medical, Talkspace, and Kindbody coverage included
  • 401(k) and Roth 401(k) with employer-sponsored investment benefits
  • Parental leave and unlimited PTO
  • Competitive equity
