Job description

  • Scaling our source code systems to keep up with increasing push rates
  • Increasing automated safeguards and rollbacks that allow engineers to ship with higher confidence
  • Rolling out changes to the entire Netflix fleet
What We’ll Expect From You

We are seeking a backend, distributed systems-focused engineer who is comfortable writing, improving, maintaining, and sunsetting critical services and infrastructure at our scale. Below are the specific behaviors and competencies important for this role.

Requirements

  • Cross-Functional - You enjoy collaborating with multiple teams on creating solutions and supporting solutions with a myriad of sometimes conflicting requirements.

  • Curiosity - You are curious and enjoy working on ambiguous problems where the solutions are not (yet) well defined.
  • Communication - You are proficient {in verbal and written mediums} in explaining topics that the audience was not familiar with previously., * Experienced with Java or other JVM languages.
  • Have built distributed systems components. You know how to debug them and how they can fail.
  • Able to break down complexity, iterate, and communicate progress to a wide variety of partners and stakeholders.
  • Comfortable maintaining and scaling 3rd party services.
  • Comfortable participating in an on-call rotation.

Nice to Have:

  • Ability to develop full-stack and write front-end code when needed.
  • Experience on a developer platform team where other engineers were your customers.

Benefits & conditions

Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $388,000.00 - $619,000.00. This compensation range will vary based on location.

Who we are

Productivity Engineering org that is responsible for the continuous delivery of software and infrastructure changes across all Netflix services. We work cross-functionally with partners across engineering to make working inside the Netflix engineering ecosystem more efficient and enjoyable for all. We focus on increasing productivity, minimizing toil, and increasing the frequency and safety of software delivery. We are hiring for roles on two teams:

  • Artifacts, Source, Continuous Integration Infrastructure (ASCII) - Owns our source code infrastructure, artifact management, and continuous integration
  • Delivery Engineering - Owns the continuous delivery of software and infrastructure changes across all Netflix services

Together, these teams build the CI/CD experiences that enable developers at Netflix to ship thousands of changes every day.

What you could work on

Our teams are responsible for the platforms that build, package, and roll out software and infrastructure changes to the entire Netflix fleet. We do this through a combination of systems including GitHub, Jenkins, Artifactory, Spinnaker, and, Managed Delivery. GenAI tools have changed how code is written at Netflix, and we’re continually scaling our infrastructure to support that growth and looking for ways to reduce the time it takes for code to get to production safely.
