Job description

  • Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for a Network Engineer who will provide key support for Department of Defense (DoD), Department of State (DoS) and other US Federal Government Electrical and Electronic Systems network design and engineering requirements.
  • Leverage knowledge and skills necessary to design, install, test and maintain Electronic Security Systems.
  • Located in Norfolk, VA., * Provide specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
  • Provide specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet mission needs, including present and future capability requirements.
  • Conduct integration and testing of network design.
  • Maintain system configuration control over software and hardware versions.
  • Maintain technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
  • Manage the requirements, design, and implementation for networks and end-to-end systems to support mission operations, existing ground systems and upgrades, technology refresh, and reliability and maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve network issues.
  • Engineering analysis, design, and evaluation shall include recommended inputs to technical orders (TOs), engineering drawings, and training documents.
  • Perform security risk management, maintain network system security and network protection in accordance with DoD policy and standards.
  • Provide interface control documents, emulator/simulator baseline control, test plans, network diagrams, and integration/deployment work instructions.
  • Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelors in a technical or related field (i.e. Computer Science, Engineering, etc.) + 8 years Exp. OR 10 years Exp. in the designing, building, integrating, testing and maintaining network and computing infrastructure.
  • Must have a Cisco CCNA or Juniper JNCIA-Junos certification
  • Must have a Security+ Certification or relevant certification IAW DoD 8140
  • Must have experience with analyzing alternatives; validating system performance; and establishing cyber security certifications and/or authority to operate (ATO) for the fielding of new/modified DoD systems.
  • Must have working knowledge of basic electrical and electronic principles.
  • Must have familiarity with the National Electric Code (NEC) requirements and practices.
  • Must have familiarity with electronics/electrical systems including, but not limited to:
  • Intrusion Detection Systems
  • Access Control Systems
  • Closed Circuit Television
  • Intercom Systems
  • Mass Notification Systems
  • IP Network Infrastructure
  • ISP/OSP Infrastructure
  • Conduit Installation
  • Low Voltage Electronic Systems

Desired Qualifications:

  • Manufacturer’s certification or technical training is highly desirable (e.g., Lenel, Genetec, BICSI).
  • Experience supporting federal or defense security programs such as US Army Corps of Engineers, Naval Information Warfare Center, US Air Force and Department of State, preferred.
  • Ability to work in a demanding, deadline-driven environment, be detailed orientated, and self-motivated, preferred.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently or under limited supervision, preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products and Adobe Acrobat, preferred.
  • Current Passport.
  • A current DoD “Secret” security clearance.

Security Requirements:

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD “Secret” security clearance with the possibility to upgrade to “Top Secret” if required.
  • Must be a US Citizen with a valid Driver’s License., * If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. (More information regarding REAL ID can be found: https://www.dhs.gov/real-id )., * Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Subject to outside environmental conditions (extreme cold/heat), Inside or Outside / Noise levels
