Job description
The NOC Engineer is responsible for maintaining the health, performance, availability, and security of the organization’s network infrastructure. This role serves as an escalation point for complex network incidents, performs root cause analysis, implements network changes and upgrades, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure maximum network uptime, reliability, and operational efficiency. The NOC Engineer proactively monitors network performance, troubleshoots issues, and supports continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the stability and scalability of the network environment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Incident Management
- Triage and resolve escalated tickets from Tier I.
- Perform deep-dive diagnostics using CLI, SNMP, NetFlow, and logs.
- Coordinate with vendors and ISPs for resolution.
Change Management
- Plan, document, and execute network changes allowed from Engineering (e.g., firmware upgrades, routing updates).
- Follow internal change control processes if the procedure is authorized through Network Engineering.
- Conduct post-change validation and rollback if needed.
Performance Optimization
- Analyze traffic patterns and bottlenecks.
- Monitor bandwidth utilization and latency.
- Investigate/Monitor & Engage appropriate parties for Network TOP 10 issues in SolarWinds
Documentation
- Maintain network diagrams, IP schemas, and device inventories.
- Document troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and lessons learned.
- Update runbooks and SOPs regularly.
- Manage End-Of-Shift Report
Security & Compliance
- Monitor for anomalies and potential threats.
- Apply patches and/or firmware updates (authorized through engineering).
- Ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements: Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Network Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience plus 1-3 years of experience in a Network Operations Center (NOC), Help Desk, Technical Support, telecommunications, ISP, or related technical environment.
- Basic understanding of network troubleshooting, routing, switching, and Ethernet technologies.
- Experience working with ticketing systems and network monitoring tools preferred.
- Industry certifications such as CCNA, Network+, JNCIA, or equivalent are a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals, routing, switching, VLANs, and Ethernet technologies.
- Ability to troubleshoot network issues using command-line tools, logs, and monitoring platforms.
- Familiarity with Cisco, Nokia, Juniper, Ciena, or similar networking platforms is preferred.
- Basic understanding of network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Wireshark, SNMP, Syslog, NetFlow, or similar technologies.
- Ability to analyze network alarms, investigate service-impacting issues, and escalate when appropriate.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to document troubleshooting activities, incident updates, and operational procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, 24x7 operational environment.
- Willingness to participate in after-hours support and on-call rotations as required

While performing the duties of the job, the associate is required on a daily basis to analyze and interpret data, communicate, and remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the workday and frequently access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The associate is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. The associate must frequently move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 25 pounds.
