Job description

Under minimal supervision, serves as the senior hands-on IoT field engineer and the bridge between the IoT Architecture and day-to-day execution at Freeport-McMoRan sites. Leads the first-of-kind field deployments that prove out new architectural patterns, validates them against the realities of mining operations, and provides honest field-tested feedback to the Architects so the architecture stays grounded and executable. Productizes proven patterns into repeatable field practices, tooling, and runbooks that Engineer I’s and II’s can execute at scale. Serves as the team’s senior technical mentor and field escalation point.

  • Lead first-of-kind field deployments, taking architectures, devices, and platform capabilities from design to proven functionality while owning field readiness.
  • Build advanced streaming analytics, pipelines, and real-time dashboards, tuning for performance, reliability, and cost, and enabling replication across sites.
  • Drive efficiency improvements by developing tooling, automation, and runbooks that streamline deployment and troubleshooting.
  • Mentor engineers and act as the senior field escalation point for complex issues, (5) validate architectural decisions and provide field-tested feedback to inform roadmap and standards.
  • Lead root cause analysis on the most complex, high-severity incidents, ensuring permanent fixes are embedded into standards.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a mining-related Engineering discipline, including an intermediate understanding or IoT infrastructure, cloud technologies, and data concepts, AND three (3) years of experience WITH two (2) years of progressive experience with IoT solutions development, implementation, and integration projects AND one (1) year of experience in an Engineering, System Administration or Technology Support role, * Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or a mining-related Engineering discipline, including an intermediate understanding of IoT infrastructure, cloud technologies, and data concepts AND five (5) years of experience WITH three (3) years of progressive experience with IoT solutions development, implementation, and integration projects, AND two (2) years of experience in an Engineering, System Administration or Technology Support role, * High School diploma or GED AND nine (9) years of experience in IoT technology, software, infrastructure, or computer systems maintenance and application support, including demonstrated hands-on experience with low-voltage field devices including cameras, sensors or data loggers, and associated field wiring and communications infrastructure.
  • Must be customer service-oriented and possess good organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to influence architectural decisions, lead design reviews, and mentor engineers across the team.

Benefits & conditions

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $97,500-$138,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
