Job description

We are seeking a highly seasoned Senior Network Engineer / Public Safety Infrastructure Specialist for a mission-critical contract role. This position is responsible for supporting the replacement, lifecycle management, and upgrade of core networking equipment across an enterprise environment., The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing high-availability infrastructure, specifically supporting 911 and 311 emergency communications operations and redundant data centers. You will ensure continuous availability, resiliency, and strict compliance with public-safety operational requirements., As a Senior Specialist, your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Infrastructure & Lifecycle Management: Support the replacement, lifecycle management, and upgrade of core, distribution, and access layer switches, routers, firewalls, and related hardware across the network environment.
  • Data Center Operations: Manage and support two data centers hosting mission-critical 911 applications, ensuring continuous 24/7 availability, redundancy, and strict compliance with operational requirements.
  • Network Design & Analysis: Apply advanced knowledge of network analysis to infrastructure design. Design and implement class-wide area networks capable of withstanding security intrusions.
  • Network Security: Utilize advanced experience with firewalls, VPNs, encryption, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and penetration testing to identify, mitigate, and prevent network vulnerabilities.
  • Documentation & Mapping: Create, maintain, and improve comprehensive network documentation. This includes:
  • Logical network maps and physical connectivity diagrams for 911/311 operations.
  • System-to-system interfaces, rack elevation diagrams, equipment inventories, and cabling records for data centers and remote sites.
  • Network configurations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), change management records, and disaster recovery materials.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor network performance and availability, proactively identifying bottlenecks or vulnerabilities to ensure the resiliency required for 24/7 emergency communications.
  • Troubleshooting & Resolution: Troubleshoot complex network issues affecting critical 911 operations. Conduct root-cause analysis, restore services rapidly under high-pressure scenarios, and document findings thoroughly.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Telecommunications RF engineering?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following strict criteria:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Total Experience: 16+ years of professional experience in network engineering, analysis, design, and implementation.
  • Infrastructure Design: 16+ years of experience analyzing networks specifically related to infrastructure design.
  • Standards & Product Best Practices: 16+ years of experience identifying best practices and standards for the use and deployment of enterprise network products.
  • Systems Integration: 16+ years of experience supporting and designing industry-specific technologies that require deep integration with complex systems or networks.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of routers, firewalls, switches, and servers, alongside deep expertise in proprietary network technologies and network security/intrusion detection.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience working within a public safety, emergency services (911/311), or high-availability critical infrastructure environment.
  • Advanced project management skills and a proven track record of handling high-stakes problem resolution.
  • Strong technical writing skills for compiling disaster recovery materials and standard operating procedures.
