Job description

  • Advance our modern Android-based system stack with a direct focus on cellular connectivity, fleet stability, and the 5G upgrade roadmap.
  • Engineer low-level AOSP system initialization routines, image partitioning, file system structures, and SELinux access policies.
  • Optimize cellular stack integrations spanning LTE and 5G modems, Radio Interface Layer components, AT commands, and eSIM configurations.
  • Analyze device telemetry and network metrics to diagnose complex fleet anomalies across hardware boundaries, RF environments, and user space.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Hardware, Product, and Infrastructure teams to design power-aware connectivity states for extreme seasonal conditions., * This isn’t an Android mobile application or UI development role, you will work entirely on low-level AOSP, cellular stacks, modems, and embedded Linux internals.
  • This is not a purely theoretical networking position, you will analyze physical device telemetry logs, debug real-world RF edge cases, and deploy code directly to physical camera fleets.
  • This isn’t a siloed backend function, you will collaborate constantly across Hardware, Cloud, and Field Operations teams to streamline device connectivity workflows.

Requirements

  • Practical experience in embedded systems or OS-level development, with deep knowledge of low-level Android OS architectures and AOSP internals.
  • Hands-on expertise with cellular networking stacks, including LTE/5G modems, Radio Interface Layer integrations, AT commands, and SIM/eSIM management.
  • Technical understanding of SELinux security policies, permissions management, and debugging system access restrictions.
  • Proficiency in networking protocols including TCP/IP, routing tables, Wi-Fi architectures, and data optimization techniques.
  • A bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field is required.
  • Experience with Qualcomm chipsets, software tools, or cellular telemetry logs is a plus.

About the company

Every community deserves to be safe. Flock builds the technology that makes that real: last year we supported over 1 million criminal investigations and helped locate more than 10,000 missing people. We’re 1,700 people building the impossible with over $1B in funding, and the expectations are high on purpose. If you want a role where the stakes are real and the pace matches, this is it.

Some problems get solved faster in the same room, so we prioritize candidates in Atlanta and Boston. Hub-based roles mean real in-person time with your coworkers. Remote roles exist, and when a posting is open to remote work, it says so.

Building the impossible takes every kind of mind. Flock is an equal opportunity employer, and we know the best solutions come from diverse perspectives, experiences, and skills working together with mutual respect. Everyone is welcome to apply. If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, email recruiting@flocksafety.com; your information stays confidential and is used only to arrange the right accommodation for your interviews.

On compensation: we pay fairly for the work. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education, training, and market indicators. The range in this posting covers base salary only and doesn’t include equity, sales bonus plans where applicable, or benefits. The range may be adjusted over time, and this posting may span more than one career level.
