Job description

The Open Data analytics team is looking for an experienced engineer to join the Spark engines team.

EMR, Glue ETL and Athena are services that our customer use to run large scale analytics, leveraging open source engines like Spark. The analytic engine organization makes significant modifications to these engines to run in EKS, EC2, Serverless environments and with superior performance and scalability than what is available in Open Source. In the last 3 years we have improved our engines by a factor of 5x by making changes to the optimizer, query runtime and storage connectors. We have also made significant changes to the compiler to enable enterprise features like fine grain access control. We have built integration frameworks and AI based automations to improve our efficiency in delivery value to our customer faster. This is a “must-win” strategic area in a growing and very technical space.

We are looking for a hands-on engineer to help us improve the Spark engine further. As an Engineer on the Spark engines team, you will help with design and implementation of key features Spark engine, release automation, tooling and Telemetry areas.

Key job responsibilities

  • Hands-on development using AI
  • Design and develop solutions to improve Spark engine delivery
  • Design and develop improvements to the AWS Runtime for Spark’s integration with other AWS services
  • Manage complex deliverables project and research projects with deadlines
  • Ensure data consistency and durability with breakthrough performance and scalability.
  • Interact and partner with the open source community

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
  • 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language, * 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
