The Development Manager supports the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint by implementing high-quality communications, donor stewardship, grant writing, CRM management, and engagement activities that strengthen relationships with donors, partners, and the community. This role brings consistency, organization, and storytelling to all areas of Resource Development, ensuring that the department operates with clarity, creativity, and efficiency.
Overview:
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint is seeking a creative, organized, and mission-driven Development Manager to support the organization’s fundraising, communications, and donor engagement efforts. This role plays a key part in advancing the Club’s mission by strengthening relationships with donors, community partners, and supporters through strategic storytelling, high-quality communications, grant writing, and exceptional stewardship practices.
The Development Manager will help bring consistency, creativity, and organization to all areas of Resource Development, supporting initiatives that increase community awareness, donor engagement, and long-term sustainability. Responsibilities include managing donor data and CRM systems, supporting social media and digital communications, writing grants and reports, coordinating storytelling efforts, and assisting with special events and fundraising campaigns.
Working closely with the Director of Development, the Development Manager will help ensure that development operations run efficiently while elevating the voices, stories, and impact of the youth and families served by the Club. This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative professional who is passionate about youth development, community impact, and building meaningful connections through fundraising and communications.
Core Responsibilities
- Communications & Social Media (Support)
a. Support the weekly/monthly social media content calendar across all platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok as launched).
c. Capture photos and videos of programs, events, and Club moments.
d. Respond to comments, messages, and community engagement in a timely, warm voice.
e. Collaborate weekly with Director of Development on strategy, tone, campaigns, and content priorities.
f. Assist in producing reels, short-form videos, and story-based content.
- CRM & Donor Data Management (Lead)
a. Maintain high-quality data entry, coding, and donor record accuracy in the CRM database.
b. Process donations, generate timely thank-you letters, and track gifts.
c. Run lists, reports, and segmentation for campaigns and events.
d. Assist with system cleanliness and data integrity checks.
- Grant Writing & Reporting (Support and Lead)
a. Research new funding opportunities and prepare draft LOIs and proposals for review.
c. Write first drafts of assigned grants including:
d. Draft and submit progress reports for assigned grants.
d. Maintain grants calendar, deadlines, attachments, and supporting documents.
e. Collaborate weekly with Director of Development for reviews, strategy alignment, and narrative refinement.
- Special Events (Support)
a. Support event communications including sponsor follow-up, collection of logos, guest name tracking, and RSVP lists.
b. Assist with event-related email communications and social posts.
c. Support day-of event logistics as assigned.
d. Help prepare collateral, signage checks, and sponsor recognition materials.
- Storytelling
a. Develop and maintain a consistent content pipeline.
b. Write and publish posts highlighting programs, youth stories, impact, and partnerships.
c. Coordinate with program staff to gather stories and secure photo permissions.
- Donor Communications & Letters
a. Produce acknowledgment letters within 48 hours of gift entry.
b. Work with the Director of Development on meaningful donor stewardship messages and touches.
c. Assist with creating consistent thank-you systems for individuals, corporate partners, and volunteers.
- Collaborative Responsibilities (Shared with Director Development)
a. Weekly RD meetings for grant review, communications planning, and data alignment.
b. Support with donor research and cultivation preparation.
c. Assist in gathering stories, photos, and metrics for appeals (YE appeal, spring campaign).
d. Collaborate on internal marketing needs for new programs and initiatives.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Research?, · Strong written communication and storytelling abilities.
· High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
· Comfort with technology platforms: Fundraising CRM, Canva, Meta Business Suite, Microsoft Office/SharePoint.
· Ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain organized workflows.
· Collaborative, positive team player with strong initiative.
· Creative mindset with interest in youth stories, photography, and digital engagement.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and represent the organization with professionalism.
