Cloud Computing Data Centers Uptime Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Job description

As a Facilities Operations Technician V - Mechanical , you will lead and guide the reliability, efficiency, and lifecycle performance of mission-critical mechanical and HVAC systems within hyperscale data centers. In this role, you will apply advanced technical expertise to solve complex issues, support high-impact events, and help guide upgrades, standards, and operational improvements that protect uptime and improve long-term performance, * Define, review, and improve mechanical and HVAC architectures and designs for high-availability environments, including chilled water, DX, airside systems, and redundancy strategies.

  • Lead complex troubleshooting, incident investigations, and root cause analysis for high-impact or recurring mechanical and HVAC issues.
  • Develop and maintain site or fleet-aligned standards for cooling redundancy, controls integration, equipment selection, and mechanical system performance.
  • Partner on capacity planning, retrofits, and emerging initiatives, including liquid cooling and efficiency projects, ensuring operability and maintainability.
  • Lead or support vendor technical reviews, commissioning acceptance criteria, and operational handover requirements.
  • Partner with procurement, facilities, engineering, and construction teams to improve total cost of ownership through standardization and performance-driven specifications., This is a mission-critical role supporting 24/7 operations where 100% uptime is essential; as such, regular attendance and flexibility for shift-based schedules are required. To perform these duties, you must be able to frequently walk, bend, kneel, crouch, push/pull objects, and climb stairs. You will be required to lift or move up to 39 pounds independently and participate in group lifts for loads 40 pounds or greater . Additionally, you must be capable of maintaining balance while working from a ladder or elevated platforms. These tasks are performed in an industrial environment and must be executed safely, with or without reasonable accommodation, to maintain the continuous health of the facility infrastructure.

Why Oracle Cloud Infrastructure?

Global impact at scale: Contribute directly to how mission-critical OCI data centers operate across regions and continents, influencing infrastructure reliability, security, sustainability, and long-term capacity growth.

Technically rigorous environment: Work alongside experienced engineers, automation specialists, and compliance teams in a rapidly scaling hyperscale cloud infrastructure, where disciplined execution and technical depth matter.

Culture built on operational excellence: Join an organization that values safety, process rigor, clear accountability, and continuous improvement as foundational to protecting uptime and customer trust.

Long-term career development: Benefit from internal mobility, role-based technical training, and development opportunities designed for professionals building long-term careers in cloud infrastructure and facilities operations.

A couple of calibration notes: EPA Section 608 is the most directly applicable credential for HVAC/mechanical technicians who may handle refrigerants. ASHRAE training and certifications are stronger signals for growing HVAC design/operations depth, while Uptime ATD is most relevant at the more senior level because it is oriented toward Tier design and infrastructure concepts rather than entry-level operations.

Requirements

  • Extensive (5-7+ Years) experience with mission-critical mechanical systems in data centers, industrial environments, healthcare, semiconductor, or other high-availability facilities.
  • Strong understanding of cooling system design and operation, controls integration, redundancy strategies, lifecycle performance, and operational risk.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical work and support critical operational decisions.
  • Advanced trade qualification, technical certification, or equivalent practical experience preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis capability.
  • Strong technical judgment and decision-making in high-risk or time-sensitive situations.
  • Ability to communicate technical risk and tradeoffs clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Ability to influence teams through standards, analysis, and operational alignment.

Preferred Skills / Certifications

  • Deep experience with chilled water plants, large-tonnage cooling systems, CRAH/CRAC infrastructure, controls integration, redundancy planning, and data center cooling performance.
  • Experience reviewing commissioning plans, sequences of operation, maintenance strategies, failure modes, and incident response documentation.
  • Ability to mentor less experienced technicians and support technical development across the team.
  • EPA Section 608 Technician Certification preferred where refrigerant-handling responsibilities apply.
  • ASHRAE credentials are highly relevant for advanced mechanical roles; ASHRAE’s certification program currently includes HVAC-focused credentials, and CHD specifically validates HVAC design competency.
  • Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer (ATD) is a strong preferred data center credential for senior-level candidates who influence redundancy strategy, design interpretation, and Tier-related infrastructure decisions.
  • Schneider Electric University data center cooling and energy coursework, including DCCA-oriented learning, can strengthen broader data center infrastructure knowledge.
  • OEM factory training or certification on chillers, cooling towers, controls systems, CRAH/CRAC platforms, and liquid-cooling-related infrastructure strongly preferred.
