Job description

We are looking for a Senior Robotics Navigation Software Engineer to drive innovation and take ownership of core capabilities. You will work across the navigation pipeline - from graph-based localization and SLAM interfaces to advanced features like human tracking, dynamic obstacle motion-aware trajectory planning, multi-floor navigation, and robot dynamics awareness for pushing performance to hardware limits.

What You Will Do

  • Design, implement, integrate, and improve autonomous navigation software for mobile robots operating in real indoor environments.
  • Develop and optimize 2D navigation algorithms, including global planning, local trajectory planning, constrained motion planning, obstacle avoidance, and recovery behavior in tight or dynamic spaces.
  • Integrate costmap inputs from multiple sensor sources, including LiDAR, depth, infrared, ultrasonic, or other robot-specific sensing modalities.
  • Analyze real robot navigation failures using logs, telemetry, simulation, replay tools, and controlled experiments.
  • Collaborate with perception, control, embedded, QA, and product teams to bring navigation features from prototype to stable deployment.
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested C++ software for long-term use in a deployed robotics system., * Implementing or significantly modifying planning algorithms beyond tuning existing navigation packages.
  • Graph-based localization, SLAM, pose graphs, map alignment, and landmark-based localization confidence handling.
  • advanced control theory, state estimation, or optimization methods (e.g., MPC, EKF, MHE, SQP, or gradient-based optimization)
  • optimization libraries or numerical solvers in robotics applications
  • embedded systems, real-time controller integration, or low-level control interfaces
  • ROS2 migration or mixed ROS/ROS2 systems
  • 3D SLAM, visual-inertial systems, or RGB-D perception
  • CUDA or GPU-accelerated robotics software

Work Environment & Culture

  • Autonomy Built on Trust: We aim for high domain ownership and minimal micromanagement. Newer hires or juniors get closer guidance early on, but as trust is built, you get full room to run.
  • Fast PoCs, Rigorous Production: Build scrappy prototypes fast to prove value on physical hardware. Once greenlit, switch to extreme rigor-because this code runs autonomously around real people.
  • Radical Accountability: When something breaks, no hiding or blame-game. Own it candidly, fix it fast, and re-engineer the system so it never happens again.
  • Data Over Ego: No politics, no bureaucracy. Technical truth is decided by physics, telemetry, and test data-the best idea wins regardless of title or tenure.
  • Global & Hands-On Collaboration: Work with a lean, cross-functional team across Vienna lab and multiple other locations, keeping tight feedback loops on real robots.

Why This Role Matters A robot that cannot navigate reliably cannot be useful. In this role, your work directly influences how our robots move, reason about space, and perform robustly in real-world environments outside ideal lab conditions. This is a high-impact role for an engineer who enjoys the full loop: algorithms, architecture, integration, field debugging, and long-term product reliability in contact with real environments and real users. If you have deployed autonomous navigation software and want to work on serious robotics product engineering at scale, we would like to hear from you.

We invite you to visit our careers page (https://aeolusbot.com/about#careers) to start growing with us.

Requirements

  • We are looking for an experienced engineer who enjoys the full loop: algorithms, architecture, integration, and field debugging.

About the company

Aeolus Robotics Vienna, Wien, Austria Vollzeit SCHNELLBEWERBUNGNEU About Us 9 Years. 50+ Engineers. Zero Hype. Aeolus Robotics builds autonomous service robots that operate in dynamic human spaces worldwide. We’ve been through the full arc of hardware development: the early days of flashy CES booths, the humbling reality of real-world field deployments, and the years of relentless engineering focus required to build true system stability. After hardening our hardware and software stack against the messy reality, we are expanding our fleet with a battle-tested team and a mature product. We aren’t here to sell ungrounded promises or CGI prototypes. We engineer quiet, high-ROI, rock-solid service robots designed for customers who expect real-world execution.
