We are looking for an experienced Python Developer to join a high-performing technology team developing innovative machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions that support cutting-edge scientific research and drug discovery.

This is a key role focused on designing, building, and deploying scalable software platforms that enable the integration of AI/ML capabilities into production environments. You’ll work closely with software engineers, data engineers, data scientists, and research teams to deliver high-quality solutions that accelerate scientific innovation and improve outcomes through advanced technology.

You will be responsible for the development, deployment, integration, and continuous improvement of cloud-native applications, ensuring they are secure, scalable, reliable, and aligned with modern software engineering best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain Back End services and APIs for Python-based web applications.
  • Design, deploy, and manage cloud-native infrastructure to support data-driven applications and services.
  • Integrate AI/ML models and services with Front End applications, data platforms, and compute environments.
  • Deliver high-quality software solutions following engineering best practices, including automated testing, documentation, and code quality standards.
  • Develop, monitor, and improve key operational and performance metrics across applications and services.
  • Participate in peer code reviews, contributing to continuous improvement across engineering standards and practices.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, and data scientists to build and maintain end-to-end data and machine learning pipelines.
  • Support CI/CD processes and ensure reliable deployment of applications into production environments.
  • Troubleshoot, optimise, and maintain applications to ensure high availability and performance.

We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience as a Python Developer, Backend Developer, Software Engineer, or Application Developer.
  • Strong commercial experience developing applications using Python.
  • Experience working within cloud environments, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Pytest.
  • Strong understanding of modern software development practices, including Git, GitHub, CI/CD, and DevOps methodologies.
  • Experience working within Agile software development environments.
  • Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs and Back End services.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Desirable:

Experience with FastAPI, Docker, containerised applications, React or Vue, AI/ML-powered applications, Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP), data engineering pipelines, scientific datasets, and highly regulated environments. Exposure to technical leadership, mentoring junior developers, or delivering large-scale software projects would be advantageous.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Life Sciences, or a related discipline, or equivalent commercial experience.

Contract Details:

  • 6-Month Initial Contract
  • Inside IR35
  • London-based
  • Hybrid Working (2 days onsite per week)
  • Potential for extension based on project requirements
