Job description

Ever-expanding technology like IoT, machine learning, and artificial intelligence means that there’s more structured and unstructured data available today than ever before. As a data engineer, you know that organizing data can yield pivotal insights when it’s gathered from disparate sources. We need an experienced data professional like you to help our clients find answers in their data to impact important missions-from fraud detection to cancer research to national intelligence.

As a data engineer at Booz Allen, you’ll use your expertise to help build advanced technology solutions and lead data engineering activities on some of the most mission-driven projects in the industry. You’ll guide data engineering activities by overseeing the development and deployment of pipelines and platforms that organize and make disparate data meaningful.

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with AI Model Engineers, Network and Cloud Architects, the ISSE, and other technical leaders to guide the development of scalable, missionaligned data pipelines. You’ll apply your expertise in data engineering, exploratory analysis, and feature development to shape how datasets are assessed, designed, transformed, and maintained for AI/ML workloads. While supporting a crossfunctional technical environment, you’ll help ensure highquality, wellgoverned data flows that enable reliable model performance across operational, research, and enterprise systems.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience as a data engineer
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines for structured and unstructured data
  • Experience preparing validated, normalized, and secure datasets for AI/ML model development
  • Experience implementing data governance practices, including access control, lineage tracking, and dataset documentation
  • Experience developing dashboards and metrics for data and pipeline monitoring
  • Experience building automated ETL workflows and CI/CD pipelines for data processes
  • Experience optimizing data workflows across onprem, cloud, or hybrid environments
  • Ability to monitor and improve pipeline performance in coordination with operations teams
  • TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph
  • HS diplomaor GED and 6+ years of experience with data normalization and data pipelines, or Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of experience with data normalization and data pipelines

Nice If You Have:

  • 10+ years of experience as a data engineer
  • Experience with distributed data and compute tools, such as Spark, Databricks, Hadoop, Hive, or Kafka
  • Experience with cloud environments, such as AWS or Azure
  • Experience developing realtime or streaming data applications
  • Experience evaluating emerging technologies for data processing or AI/ML workflows
  • Experience working in environments with security, compliance, or ISSE oversight
  • Experience developing or supporting visualization tools and frameworks
  • Experience supporting AI/ML model development pipelines
  • Bachelor’s degree
