Job description

As a Senior Solutions Architect on the Delivery Architecture team, you are the senior technical lead for customer engagements within Astronomer’s Services Delivery team.

You work in small teams with project managers and engineers, helping customers operationalize Airflow and Astro at scale.

You interact directly with engineers, architects, and executives to design their data orchestration platform on Astro. This role combines solution architecture with hands-on technical work, including building prototypes to validate designs.

  • Lead architecture reviews, workshops, and technical design sessions with engineering teams and executive stakeholders.
  • Design end-to-end platform architectures integrating Airflow with cloud infrastructure, compute frameworks, and data platforms.
  • Review delivery work to ensure high standards for scalability, observability, security, and operational excellence.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues, guide customers through deployments, migrations, and platform modernization.
  • Build reusable tools, frameworks, reference architectures, and best practices that improve delivery quality across the organization.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or solution architecture
  • Airflow expertise authoring and deploying Dags to production, monitoring execution, and troubleshooting failures.
  • Experience tuning Airflow performance, refactoring Dag code, right-sizing infrastructure, and implementing data quality checks and alerts.
  • Proven track record of guiding customers through platform deployments, migrations, or technical transformations, managing scope, timelines, and stakeholder conflicts.
  • Strong background in designing cloud native data platforms on AWS, Azure, or GCP, with familiarity in enterprise networking, security, and identity patterns.
  • Programming experience in Python and SQL.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, dbt, BigQuery, or Redshift.
  • Track record leading architecture discussions and driving technical decisions with engineering leaders and executive stakeholders.

Benefits & conditions

The estimated salary for this role ranges from $190,000 - $250,000 based on leveling and geography, along with an equity component and a comprehensive benefits package. This range is merely an estimate; actual compensation may deviate from this range based on skills, experience, and qualifications.
