Job description

The Albemarle County Public Schools Department of Technology is actively recruiting an Assistant Director for Technology Integration to lead the School Division’s drive to integrate contemporary technologies throughout the curriculum, schools, and the community at large. This person will supervise the Learning Technology team and will serve on the leadership team for the Department of Technology. Using the ACPS Framework for Quality Learning aligned with the VDOE’s Digital Learning Integration Standards, the Assistant Director supports both student learning and the district’s strategic goals. This support will be characterized by creating open learning environments designed around Division beliefs in Equity, Access, and Universal Design for Learning. This Assistant Director will work with the Deputy Chief Technology Officer, and the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, among others. Together they will ensure that all Learning Technologies, and the support structures behind them, support all learners equitably, as well as assist teachers in the professional learning needed to fill contemporary educational roles., * Leads the Learning Technology Team (the Learning Technology Integrators and the Manager for Digital Equity) and through this team helps to set Division priorities for classroom technology, digital learning, and future technology initiatives;

  • Provides leadership for classroom computer and 1:1 (one-to-one) initiatives;
  • Provides leadership for technology outreach projects, including internet connectivity for all students;
  • Leads the resource vetting process and the development of digital curriculum;
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of the Division’s Internet Safety Program as mandated by the federal government, and stewards the development and delivery of the digital citizenship curriculum;
  • Collaborates with lead coaches, principals, and departmental heads to assess and respond to the impact of technology on teaching and learning;
  • Supports and aligns professional learning programs for both professional and instructional staff with the instructional priorities outlined by the Office of Instruction;
  • Collaborates with Technology Leadership to support new technology acquisitions to ensure instructional alignment;
  • Works with Technology and Division Leadership to ensure technology considerations and goals are part of the Division’s Strategic Plan and support the implementation of those goals;
  • Assists and consults with others in the Department of Technology and the Office of Instruction on the collection and management of data, and submits reports;
  • Leads or supports committees and project teams responsible for instructional technology and professional development, including collaboration with Facilities Planning to ensure spaces are appropriately functional for contemporary learning;
  • Keeps informed of emerging technologies and developments in the fields of instructional technology and professional development;
  • Manages the hiring process for the Learning Technology Team;
  • Conducts annual performance reviews for all members of the Learning Technology Team;
  • Develops resources for family engagement and actively participates in community outreach and events;
  • Manages a database of instructional technology coaching interactions;
  • Participates in department leadership meetings;
  • Performs other tasks as assigned

Requirements

Exceptional oral and written communication skills; strong leadership skills in support of the Educational Technology Plan and the Division’s mission; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comprehensive instructional technology experience; comprehensive knowledge of professional development; proven expertise in the planning and implementing instructional technology systems and professional development; ability to perform instructional technology systems analysis and needs assessments; ability to develop effective plans to meet instructional technology needs; technical expertise with computer systems; eagerness to learn and apply new technologies; ability to write clear and concise reports; ability to present technical information to decision-makers., A bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field is preferred with at least five years of experience using instructional technologies in an educational setting; a capacity to lead and apply concepts around Educational Technology in an educational setting; proven experience in presenting and planning staff development for adult learners. Must be certified as a teacher in Virginia or eligible to be certified in Virginia. A master’s degree is preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
