Job description

Senior level Lead and mentor a software engineering team (player-coach) to build and maintain mission-critical device monitoring, alerting, and internal health tooling. Drive technical strategy and microservices design, contribute full-stack TypeScript/Node.js/React code, and manage containerized deployments with Docker, Kubernetes/Helm and AWS services (S3, API Gateway, SQS). Collaborate cross-functionally and use AI-assisted developer tools to increase team velocity. The summary above was generated by AI The Problem

Flock’s device fleet is scaling fast, and Fleet is the core engineering team keeping it all running. You’ll lead a team building and maintaining the internal tools, web services, alarms, and status-tracking platforms that monitor the health of our live device network nationwide. No exaggeration: this work is mission-critical. If a device goes down, our customers feel it immediately, making this team our first line of defense.

This is a player-coach role (60% people management / 40% individual contribution). You’ll split your time between mentoring engineers, driving technical strategy, and staying directly in the codebase so you’re never too far removed from what your team ships. If you want to grow a high-performing engineering team while writing software that directly impacts public safety outcomes, this is the seat.

What You’ll Own

  • Lead a team of software engineers, supporting their career growth, managing sprint execution, and driving high-performing team dynamics.
  • Drive technical strategy, roadmap planning, and microservices design across device monitoring, alerting, and internal health tools.
  • Write full-stack code using TypeScript, Node.js, and React to deliver real-time dashboards, web services, and robust APIs.
  • Build and manage containerized applications using Docker, Kubernetes (via Helm), and AWS managed services (S3, API Gateway, SQS).
  • Leverage modern AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, etc.) to streamline workflows and boost team delivery speed.

What This Role Is Not

  • This isn’t a hands-off, purely administrative management job. You will actively review code, contribute to the stack, and solve complex architectural challenges alongside your team.
  • This is not an RF hardware or field service management position. You will build the software platform, metric engines, and real-time monitoring infrastructure that power physical device operations.
  • This isn’t an isolated feature-building role. You will work cross-functionally across multiple engineering and operations teams to solve high-visibility, mission-critical scaling problems., Lead and hands-on manage an engineering team delivering Customer Care and Aftersales order entry and retail inventory systems. Own delivery, modernization, cloud migration, resiliency, observability, DevSecOps, incident readiness, and cross-functional coordination. Coach engineers, drive technical strategy, ensure production stability, and align engineering priorities with business and product stakeholders. About the company

Every community deserves to be safe. Flock builds the technology that makes that real: last year we supported over 1 million criminal investigations and helped locate more than 10,000 missing people. We’re 1,700 people building the impossible with over $1B in funding, and the expectations are high on purpose. If you want a role where the stakes are real and the pace matches, this is it.

Some problems get solved faster in the same room, so we prioritize candidates in Atlanta and Boston. Hub-based roles mean real in-person time with your coworkers. Remote roles exist, and when a posting is open to remote work, it says so.

Building the impossible takes every kind of mind. Flock is an equal opportunity employer, and we know the best solutions come from diverse perspectives, experiences, and skills working together with mutual respect. Everyone is welcome to apply. If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, email [email protected]; your information stays confidential and is used only to arrange the right accommodation for your interviews.

On compensation: we pay fairly for the work. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education, training, and market indicators. The range in this posting covers base salary only and doesn’t include equity, sales bonus plans where applicable, or benefits. The range may be adjusted over time, and this posting may span more than one career level.
