Job description

Job Summary: The Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian (MSCHONY) is seeking a candidate with experience in change management, patient safety, and quality improvement with an interest in pursuing a career in healthcare administration at a top academic medical center.

This fellowship is a specialized health services performance and quality improvement position working with and under the direction of Dr. Michael Vitale, Medical Director of the Pediatric Initiative to Make Care Better/Chief of Pediatric Spine Service and Lystra Swift, Vice President of Clinical Operations for Perioperative Services.

The fellow will support, facilitate, and coordinate pediatrics-wide quality improvement initiatives and projects, including interdisciplinary work with clinical, research, and administrative staff. It allows for a high degree of autonomy and the opportunity to meaningfully improve culture in an institution that prides itself on reliable delivery of high-quality care. The position is designed to support and develop individuals with aspirations for increased responsibility in healthcare management and/or quality and safety. The projects assigned to the individual will allow for exposure to senior leadership.

Essential Duties:

  • Manage and systematize current quality improvement projects for the Making Care Better Initiative, including preventing surgical site infections, antibiotic stewardship, enhancing Operating Room throughput, standardizing treatment protocols to enhance quality of care, and many others
  • Utilize the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program framework to engage front line staff, educate staff on the science of safety, execute initiatives and evaluate quality initiatives
  • Develop, recommend, and implement quality improvement projects related to MSCH’s efforts to meet Solutions for Patient Safety hospital-acquired condition bundles

Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.

NYP will not reimburse for travel expenses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Master’s Degree in health care management, public administration, or public health preferred
  • Prior experience or knowledge of quality improvement, quality assurance, or performance improvement preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in managing informatics and utilizing common statistical, spreadsheet, and database management programs
  • Ability to work independently and receive feedback on a regular basis
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and team-building skills
  • Persuasive oral and written skills
