As a Software Development Engineer II on BuyX Layouts, you will own the design and delivery of significant features and services end to end, make architectural decisions, raise the operational bar, and mentor other engineers. You will work on scalable services in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where development cycles are measured in weeks, not years., Own the design, development, and delivery of major features and services, from broadly defined problems through to production and operations.

  • Design and build innovative technologies in a large distributed computing environment and help lead fundamental changes in the industry.

  • Make sound architectural and technical trade-offs, and drive engineering best practices, design reviews, code quality, testing, and operational excellence, across the team.

  • Build distributed storage, index, and query systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, low cost, and easy to manage and use.

  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary Amazonians to conceive, design, and bring innovative products and services to market.

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical growth of the team.

A day in the life

The challenges SDEs solve at Amazon are big and influence millions of customers, sellers, and products around the world. You will partner with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers (including PE, Sr Engineers) to take features from broadly defined problems to production. As an SDE II you will not only build, but also help shape the technical direction of the team, reviewing designs, raising the quality and operational bar, and mentoring others, while managing ambiguity and the pace of a team that ships fast.

BuyX Layouts builds the shopping experiences that help customers evaluate products and make confident purchase decisions across Amazon’s detail and browse surfaces. We work on high-scale, customer-facing systems and experiment rapidly to move the needle on the customer experience. Requirements

3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience

  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience

  • 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
