Job description

Sphinx is hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our team, building the next generation of mission planning and command and control software for space communications programs. This team is charged with creating modern, resilient services and capabilities to service the US Government for the next decade and beyond.

We’re seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to help take our build and deployment automation to the next level. As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will build the development and deployment infrastructure used by our Space Communications team, which provides infrastructure for a wide variety of US Government satellites; you will play a key role in building a cutting-edge communications platform for US government satellites. You will have a role in determining what we build and how we work. You’ll work as an individual contributor and a lead for more junior engineers.

What you will be focusing on:

  • Working with a team to develop and operate automated build and deployment infrastructure in GitLab CI/CD and Atlantis
  • Developing and operating automated build and deployment infrastructure
  • Writing and maintaining Cloud Infrastructure
  • Owning technical problems end-to-end
  • Maintain multiple Kubernetes clusters in production
  • Packaging software into Helm Charts
  • Writing and maintaining Cloud Infrastructure with Terraform
  • Configure and maintain a federated message bus infrastructure
  • Maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Supporting software engineering teams with the use and integration of pipelines and cloud infrastructure
  • Ensuring developed infrastructure and CI/CD solutions seamlessly deploy/integrate with third-party platforms and infrastructures, Lead design, automation, scalability, and security of production Kubernetes environments on AWS. Manage EKS clusters and container platforms, implement IaC (Terraform, Ansible), build GitLab CI/CD and GitOps pipelines, configure Keycloak and observability stacks, enforce DevSecOps and compliance, troubleshoot platform issues, and mentor junior engineers., Lead modernization and automation of infrastructure, migrate services to AWS serverless, build developer tooling (including AI-agent workflows), maintain WordPress backends, design secure highly available systems, troubleshoot complex issues, and provide rotating 24/7 on-call support. Requirements

  • You have 5+ years of progressively responsible software engineering experience in a DevOps role
  • Leveraged a major cloud provider’s (AWS, Azure, GCP) services in a production setting
  • A habit of self-directed learning of new technologies
  • Strong experience with either Python or Go
  • Strong experience with Ansible automation
  • You have made enough mistakes and booked enough wins to know what not to build and what good looks like
  • The ability to see through the noise to the most critical problem.
  • The ability to provide technical leadership, guide, and mentor junior engineers
