Job description
The Senior Data Engineer will serve as the Department of State (DoS) Political-Military Affairs Bureauās lead technical architect for data infrastructure, analytics enablement, and AI integration in support of the Evidence Act and the Enterprise Data and AI Strategy (EDAIS). The role provides technical leadership to a data team and facilitates coordination with the Bureau Chief Data Officer (BCDO), the Center for Analytics (CfA), and the Bureauās Front Office management.
Requirements
- Active Secret security clearance.
- Bachelorās degree
- EIGHT (8) or more years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or related IT fields, including at least one (1) year in a project-management role supporting a federal or enterprise-scale data initiative.
- Experience in data standardization, database management (SQL, MS Access, PostgreSQL, or equivalent), and business-intelligence development.
- Experience leading technical teams to deliver dashboards, visualizations, and analytic tools that inform strategic and operational decision-making.
- Experience implementing cloud-based or hybrid data solutions within federal security and privacy frameworks.
What Would Be Nice To Have:
- Experience working with federal data governance frameworks such as the Evidence Act, EDAIS, or related interagency data-sharing initiatives.
- Professional certifications or formal training in data engineering, analytics, or cloud architecture (e.g., Microsoft Certified Data Engineer, AWS Data Analytics Specialty, or equivalent) are highly desirable.
- Hands-on expertise with modern data-engineering toolchains (e.g., dbt, Apache Airflow, Databricks, or equivalent).
- Background in designing or implementing AI/ML-enabled analytics solutions within secure or compliance-driven environments.
