Software Engineer - Java/Python

You’ll be responsible for designing, developing and delivering high-quality backend services and applications using modern software engineering principles.

Working within agile engineering teams, you’ll contribute to solution design, architecture, automation and continuous improvement while helping deliver reliable, scalable systems for enterprise clients., * Design, develop and maintain scalable backend applications and services

• Build secure, high-performing solutions using modern engineering practices
• Develop APIs, integrations and distributed systems
• Contribute to technical design, architecture and engineering best practices
• Implement automated testing strategies, including unit, integration and contract testing
• Deploy and support applications using cloud platforms, containers and CI/CD pipelines
• Monitor, troubleshoot and improve application performance and reliability
• Collaborate with engineers, architects and stakeholders to deliver high-quality technical solutions

They’re looking for experience with several of the following:

Backend development:

• Strong commercial experience with Java and/or Python
• Experience building enterprise applications, APIs and backend services
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, object-oriented design and system architecture
• Experience working with databases, data persistence and integration patterns

Cloud & engineering practices:

• Experience delivering applications on cloud platforms (AWS preferred, Azure or GCP also considered)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices
• Infrastructure as Code experience using tools such as Terraform, AWS CDK or Pulumi
• Experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Knowledge of secure software development practices and automated testing

Desirable Experience

• Experience working with distributed systems and microservices architectures
• Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies
• Experience with NoSQL technologies such as Elasticsearch
• Experience debugging and resolving complex technical challenges
• Experience contributing to technical projects within agile engineering teams
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, Due to the nature of the work, successful applicants must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).

Applicants will typically need to demonstrate 5 years of continuous UK address history, with no significant periods spent overseas (usually no periods of 30 consecutive days or more outside the UK).
