Job description
Our Newcastle site runs high-density GPU infrastructure around the clock, and we need a senior technician who can handle the most demanding hardware work on site. This is a hands-on individual contributor role in our shift team, reporting to the Data Center Operations Manager.
Youâll be the person the team turns to for the complex jobs: GPU server installs, tricky diagnostics, repairs that others canât crack, and clean, high-quality network cabling at scale. Youâll also help less experienced technicians level up by sharing what you know and setting the standard for how work gets done on site.
When installations happen or machines break down, the expected pace is âeverything done yesterday.â Communication here is open and upfront.
What Youâll Do
- Install, configure, and maintain GPU servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and structured cabling.
- Diagnose and repair complex hardware faults on enterprise GPU servers, component-level troubleshooting, RMA handling, and root-cause analysis.
- Perform rack and stack, cabling (copper and fibre), and hardware refresh work to a high quality standard.
- Monitor data center environmental conditions: temperature, humidity, power, and respond to alerts during your shifts.
- Work as part of a shift rotation ensuring 24/7 uptime and availability of the site.
- Contribute hands-on to build-outs, migrations, and refresh projects as the site grows.
- Mentor junior technicians on the shift team and help maintain consistent work quality across shifts.
- Collaborate with network engineers, system administrators, and the Data Center Operations Manager.
Requirements
- 3-5+ years of progressive data center or IT infrastructure experience, with significant hands-on hardware time.
- Direct hands-on experience with enterprise GPU servers (NVIDIA Ampere, Hopper, or Blackwell generations).
- Strong diagnostic skills, you can isolate faults across compute, network, and cabling without a script to follow.
- Ability and willingness to work shift-based rotation on site in Newcastle.
- Existing right to work in the UK (we cannot sponsor visas for this position at this time).
- Relevant qualification (e.g., apprenticeship, BTEC/HND, or degree in IT/Computer Engineering) or equivalent hands-on experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience with liquid cooling: DLC loops and maintenance of liquid cooling solutions.
- Experience with large cluster deployments or data hall build-outs as a hands-on technician.
- Experience mentoring junior technicians., * Please note: we are currently unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. Applicants must have the existing right to work in the UK.
