Job description
Join a specialist satellite communications and network solutions provider delivering advanced connectivity solutions for critical environments. The organisation is entering a period of significant growth following a major strategic partnership, offering the opportunity to play a key role within a close-knit, people-focused team. This company is seeking a Network Engineering Manager to lead and develop a team of seven engineers. The role focuses on people leadership, mentoring, and translating business requirements into successful delivery, making it ideal for someone with strong management skills and a solid networking background rather than deep technical specialisation. SC clearance eligibility is required. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity and apply today! Responsibilities:
- Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of seven engineers spanning a wide range of experience and technical maturity
- Receiving and managing work packages and tasking orders from senior leadership, ensuring structured delivery across the team
- Translating technical requirements into clear, actionable direction for engineers at varying skill levels
- Supporting the professional development of team members from entry level through to near-architect standard
- Contributing to the continued growth and cohesion of a close-knit, high-performing engineering team
- Collaborating with senior network architects on delivery planning and workstream prioritisation
- Maintaining SC clearance eligibility and adhering to security requirements appropriate to a defence and government-facing business
Requirements
Skills/Must Have:
- Demonstrable experience in engineering team leadership and mentoring as a primary function - not a secondary responsibility alongside a technical role
- Solid networking fundamentals across switches, routers, and firewalls - sufficient to understand tasks, translate requirements, and lead engineers credibly
- Structured, calm leadership style with the ability to develop and retain engineers across a wide range of experience and seniority
- SC clearance eligibility as a minimum
- Based within commutable distance of Hereford or genuinely willing to relocate - the role is fully on-site five days a week
Desirable Skills:
- Ex-military background - the team and culture are predominantly ex-forces and candidates from this background will integrate quickly
- Satcom or LEO satellite awareness - Starlink and LEO panel familiarity useful given the core business
- AWS or cloud infrastructure experience - the business is actively onboarding with a major LEO cloud platform and AWS training is being built out from early next year
- PNT (Position, Navigation, Timing) experience - extremely rare and considered a significant differentiator
Benefits & conditions
- Industry-leading profit-share bonus scheme: 10% of company profits distributed across all employees, weighted by salary and performance. Bonus payments have historically reached 40-90% of individual annual salary - figures are exceptional when the business performs well, and next year’s commercial pipeline is the strongest in the company’s history
- BUPA private healthcare
- Dental cover
- 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays
- Birthday as a fully paid additional day off
- Free on-site gym
- Free parking
- Early Friday finish - the team wraps around 1pm
- First-class flights to international industry conferences
- Fully funded training and development including AWS courses being introduced next year, * Competitive (discussed on application)
