Telecoms Civils & Pre-Enablement Operatives - Virgin Media Network

You’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality network infrastructure works, ensuring the Virgin Media network is fully prepared for customer installations and ongoing maintenance.

Working across underground and street-level infrastructure, you’ll undertake a combination of pre-enablement, civils, reinstatement and network build activities while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out telecoms pre-enablement activities across the Virgin Media network.
• Complete excavation and reinstatement works within footways, carriageways and verges.
• Install, repair and maintain underground telecoms ducting and associated network infrastructure.
• Pull, prove and prepare fibre and coaxial cables through underground duct networks.
• Rod, rope and clear underground duct routes, identifying and resolving blockages.
• Install chambers, cabinets, ducting and associated telecommunications infrastructure.
• Support fibre and coaxial cable installation and wider network build activities.
• Conduct network quality inspections, assurance checks and remedial works.
• Safely locate and expose existing underground utility services.
• Operate specialist telecoms and civils equipment, hand tools and plant safely and effectively.
• Maintain safe, compliant and well-organised work sites.
• Accurately record completed works using handheld technology and digital job management systems.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health & safety legislation, quality standards and Virgin Media client requirements.

Telecoms experience is essential. We are looking for engineers and operatives with previous experience working on Virgin Media or similar HFC/fibre network infrastructure. Whether your background is in pre-enablement, telecoms civils, reinstatement, network build, duct installation or underground infrastructure, we’d like to hear from you., Previous telecoms experience is essential.

Applicants must have experience working within the telecommunications industry on underground network infrastructure. Experience gained on Virgin Media, Openreach, CityFibre, Nexfibre or other telecoms network build projects is highly desirable.

We’re looking for individuals with experience in some or all of the following:

• Telecoms civils, pre-enablement or network build activities.
• Excavation, duct installation and reinstatement.
• Underground duct networks, chambers, cabinets and utility services.
• Fibre and coaxial cable installation.
• Rodding, roping, duct proving and blockage clearance.
• Network quality inspections and defect remediation.
• Supporting customer connection and access network activities.
• Working safely within street works and customer environments.

You’ll also have:

• A strong understanding of telecoms network quality standards and safe working practices.
• Knowledge of safe digging practices and reinstatement specifications.
• NRSWA accreditation (preferred) or willingness to obtain.
• Experience operating plant and machinery (advantageous).
• Strong fault-finding, problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Confidence using handheld devices and digital job management systems.
• The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• A full UK manual driving licence held for at least 12 months with no more than six penalty points.
