Job description

As a Data Platform Engineer at Shalion, you will own the foundations the rest of the data organization depends on every day: our Snowflake platform, our AWS lakehouse built on Iceberg tables, our Apache Airflow orchestration layer, and the Terraform code that provisions all of it., * Own and evolve our Snowflake platform: warehouses, databases, storage integrations, stages, external tables, shares and network policies.

  • Design and maintain our access model: role hierarchies, grants and least-privilege permissions for people, service users and external partners.
  • Manage the platform as code with Terraform, reviewed in pull requests and deployed through GitHub Actions.
  • Operate our AWS lakehouse: ingestion of parquet files and Iceberg tables from S3, plus the IAM plumbing that connects AWS and Snowflake safely.
  • Orchestrate and harden pipelines in Apache Airflow, and drive reliability and cost efficiency with Synq and SELECT.dev.
  • Apply security and governance best practices: authentication, secret management, naming conventions and clear data ownership.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in data platform, data engineering, or platform/infrastructure roles in production.
  • Hands-on Snowflake or similar experience as a platform, not only as a SQL engine: you know what storage integrations, stages, shares, warehouses and the RBAC model are and when to use each.
  • Solid experience with Terraform or equivalent IaC.
  • Experience with Apache Airflow or a comparable orchestrator, including operating it and not only writing DAGs.
  • Experience with AWS (S3, IAM) and working knowledge of what Iceberg tables are and how they fit into a lakehouse.
  • Daily usage of GitHub for version control and CI/CD, and a security-first mindset.
  • Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Languages: Fluent in Spanish and English B1 or higher., * Hands-on experience with Iceberg tables on AWS (Glue Catalog, Lake Formation, S3 Tables, Athena or Snowflake Iceberg).
  • Experience with data observability or Snowflake cost tooling such as Synq, Monte Carlo or SELECT.dev.
  • Experience with dbt, Airbyte, or containerized workloads (Docker).
  • Experience using AI coding assistants to increase your leverage, with good judgment when reviewing generated code.
  • Proven experience designing roles and permissions, and a genuine interest in data governance.
  • Experience with SQL and Python

Soft Skills We Value

  • Ownership - You treat the platform as yours, including the boring parts that keep it running.
  • Adaptability - Ability to find solutions in uncertain situations.
  • Quality-Oriented - Awareness of data quality, security and the importance of testing.
  • Collaboration - Experience working in Agile environments and supporting other teams as internal customers.

Benefits & conditions

  • A dynamic and innovative environment - Be part of a high-performing team.
  • Hybrid work model - 3 days in-office, 2 days remote.
  • Impactful work - Contribute to a challenging and innovative project.
  • Flexible benefits - Allocate part of your gross salary (pre-tax) to meal vouchers, transport allowance, and private healthcare at a preferential rate.
  • Office perks - Fresh fruit and specialty coffee daily.
  • Contract - Permanent
  • Salary range - from 45,000€ to 60,000€ gross/yearly, according to experience and seniority.
  • Great location - Office in Barcelona’s Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district.
