Job description

  • Modernize/rewrite the open-source UFO framework for scalable GPU-accelerated image reconstruction and analysis
  • Design execution and scheduling mechanisms for image processing pipelines across CPUs, GPUs, and multi-node systems
  • Optimize dataflow architectures for high-throughput processing with focus on:

  • zero-copy processing,
  • asynchronous execution,
  • streaming pipelines,
  • GPU-to-GPU transfers,
  • and efficient utilization of high-speed interconnects

Integrate and implement reconstruction and image processing algorithms for large-scale 3D imaging

Requirements

  • PhD in computer science, mathematics, or related disciplines; alternatively masters in one of the named disciplines with 2+ years work experience.
  • Hands-on experience developing complex software systems in high-performance computing/ GPU computing environments
  • Experience with GPU programming and parallel computing (CUDA, OpenCL, MPI, or similar) *Strong programming skills in C/C++ and Python
  • Good Linux and software development skills (debugging, profiling, build systems, version control, design patterns)
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English

Desirable skills:

  • Experience with image processing or tomographic reconstruction
  • Experience with graph-based execution systems, streaming/dataflow architectures, or task schedulers
  • Experience with RDMA/high-speed networking, or multi-GPU programming

About the company

The UFO framework consists of the pipeline management library ufo-core (https://github.com/ufo-kit/ufo-core) and the companion library ufo-filters (https://github.com/ufo-kit/ufo-filters), which provides OpenCL-based image processing algorithms. You will redesign and modernize its key architectural elements while building on proven components to meet the demands of future large-scale imaging.
