Job description

We are seeking a motivated Network Engineer to support and maintain the organization’s wired and wireless network across campus. This position is responsible for troubleshooting network connectivity issues in offices, classrooms, residence halls, and other campus facilities. The ideal candidate will have experience with Cisco networking equipment, wireless networking, structured cabling, and VLAN configuration, along with strong troubleshooting skills and excellent customer service., Network Operations

  • Support Cisco Catalyst and Meraki switch environments.

  • Configure and troubleshoot switch ports, VLANs, and network connectivity issues.

  • Assist with switch installations, upgrades, and hardware replacements.

  • Maintain network documentation, diagrams, and network inventory.

Wireless Networking

  • Support Cisco wireless access points and wireless controllers.

  • Troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity and performance issues for students, faculty, and staff.

  • Assist with wireless coverage improvements and access point deployments.

  • Diagnose wireless authentication and connectivity problems.

Security and Access Control

  • Assist with the management of Palo Alto firewall policies and VPN connectivity.

  • Support VLAN segmentation and network security initiatives.

  • Assist with Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) administration and network access control activities.

  • Follow established network security standards and best practices.

Monitoring and Troubleshooting

  • Monitor network devices and services using SolarWinds and other network monitoring tools.

  • Identify and resolve network outages, performance issues, and connectivity problems.

  • Troubleshoot issues involving computers, printers, VoIP phones, and other network-connected devices.

  • Escalate complex technical issues as necessary.

Infrastructure Support

  • Install, terminate , test, and troubleshoot Cat5e/Cat6 network cabling.

  • Create, test, and certify Ethernet patch cables.

  • Maintain MDF/IDF closets, patch panels, cable management systems, and labeling standards.

  • Assist with maintaining accurate network documentation and asset records.

Project Support

  • Participate in network upgrades, technology refresh initiatives, and infrastructure projects.

  • Assist senior engineers with network implementations and migrations.

  • Support change management and documentation efforts.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of network operations and performance.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in information technology , Computer Science, Network Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of networking experience supporting enterprise, campus, or similar environments.

  • Experience with:

  • Cisco Catalyst Switches

  • Cisco Wireless Access Points

  • VLAN Configuration and Troubleshooting

  • TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP

  • Structured Cabling

  • Basic Network Monitoring Tools

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.

  • Experience with:

  • Meraki Switching and Dashboard Management

  • Palo Alto Firewalls

  • Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)

  • Cisco DNA Center

  • SolarWinds Network Monitoring Tools

  • Cisco Wireless Controllers

  • Experience supporting higher education, healthcare, or enterprise network environments.

  • Experience with network documentation and diagramming tools.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts.

  • Understanding of VLANs, switching, routing, and wireless networking technologies.

  • Familiarity with network security principles and access control mechanisms.

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve network connectivity and performance issues.

  • Skill in installing, testing, and troubleshooting structured cabling systems.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong customer service orientation and commitment to user satisfaction.

  • Ability to maintain detailed technical documentation and records.
