Job description
The Senior Design Engineer will support the LIFT team with innovative and effective design solutions for all components and assemblies related to aircraft seating. From concept through production, this role is responsible for creating and helping implement practical, high-quality design solutions while considering regulatory requirements, customer needs, and company targets, including design for manufacturing and assembly.

- Apply sound engineering principles in the development of aircraft seating products.
- Provide design support for current and new product design projects.
- Create 3D models of individual components and assemblies in CATIA V5.
- Research and verify the design criteria and needs per customer, regulatory and company requirements.
- Design and optimize mechanical and structural components for aircraft seating.
- Develop and optimize designs which adhere to cost, volume, and quality targets established by company management and customer demand.
- Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing and assembly, including soliciting observations from fabricators, operators, quality assurance, product support, and supply chain specialists.
- Propose and verify design concepts, including material and process selections.
- Create design proposals, including presentations, and objectively demonstrate the benefits and rationale behind proposed designs.
- Create and maintain design specific schedules and action plans.
- Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously., * Works under general direction
- Expected to operate with a high degree of independence on routine and complex design tasks
- May receive review of work based on project milestones, deliverables, and technical outcomes
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY
- May mentor less experienced design engineers
- May review and provide feedback on design proposals and technical work
- May support team coordination and technical decision-making
Requirements
- Experience in and understanding on a variety of manufacturing processes, including injection molding, composites forming, CNC machining, stampings, sheetmetal forming, forgings, castings, and thermoforming.
- Understanding of material properties, including metals, general plastics, and composites.
- Able to design, complex, integrated kinematic assemblies.
- Must have extensive experience in either aircraft seating design, design of mechanism, or manufacturing processes such as injection molding, forging, casting, or composite forming.
- Able to mentor less experienced design engineers.
- Review and provide feedback of design proposal from design engineers.
- Able to communicate with customers on design requirements and proposals.
- Able to communicate with suppliers to ensure feasibility and optimization of design., * Four-year college degree (Bachelor’s Degree) required
Experience: Job assignments will be based on experience, job opening and budget availability, and the performance level of the incumbent.
- 5+ years of experience with at least 1 year leading or mentoring the work of assigned employees.
Skills:
- Strong engineering design and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Experience with aircraft seating design, mechanism design, or related manufacturing processes
- Strong knowledge of CATIA V5
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal teams
- Ability to mentor and support less experienced engineers
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Experience in aircraft seating product development
- Experience with design for manufacturing and assembly
- Exposure to supplier coordination and customer-facing design reviews
Other:
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced engineering environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to support design project schedules and technical deliverables
- May be asked to work extended or irregular hours as required.
- Must show proof of ability to work in the United States.
