Senior Director, Applications and Data

Hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing the strategy, development, and management of enterprise applications and data platforms across the organization. The position reports to a VP of IT or CIO and bridges technical execution with business strategy., Applications Leadership

• Own, execute, and operate the application roadmap, including projects and day-to-day operations, and partner with product owners to contribute to a product roadmap
• Ensure that business processes, data, and applications are consistent and aligned with industry best practices
• Ensure processes and people are in place to support all technology and business systems, and guide documentation of IT policy requirements
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted development (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) to accelerate engineering teams
• Oversee integration of AI features into business applications - chatbots, intelligent search, recommendation engines, workflow automation
• Lead evaluation of AI tools replacing or augmenting legacy applications

Data & Analytics

• Drive data governance, data quality, metadata capture, and all other aspects of data management across the organization
• Implement data governance policies and procedures to establish data management guidelines and ensure the accuracy, reliability, and security of data; oversee data integration processes to facilitate seamless data flow between systems
• Develop data transformation rules, data lineage documentation, and metadata documentation for key programs and initiatives
• Ensure the data infrastructure is “AI-ready” - clean, governed, and accessible (data mesh, lake house architecture)
• Oversee pipelines that feed ML models and LLMs, including RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) implementations
• Establish data quality and lineage standards specifically for AI model training and outputs

Leadership & Strategy

• Lead multiple technical areas, manage the activities of multiple departments, and collaborate across technical domains
• Lead project meetings with key internal team members and business stakeholders, prepare senior management presentations, and define and manage projects for cross-business initiatives
• Develop and execute improvements in operating effectiveness and efficiency, and independently analyze issues and recommend solutions
• Willingness to challenge legacy thinking and present potential new solutions for consideration to the organization
• Define policies around AI model outputs, hallucination risks, and data privacy (especially with LLMs touching sensitive data)

Team & Talent

• Hire or upskill staff in ML engineering, prompt engineering, and AI product management
• Partner with business units to embed AI champions and translate use cases into projects

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

• Serve as the primary liaison between third-party vendors and internal stakeholders; coordinate and manage outside vendors, contract negotiations, licensing, maintenance contracts, and service level agreements

• Extensive experience leading technical teams in the accomplishment of complex, enterprise-wide initiatives.
• Must be able to motivate and evaluate team members in their areas of responsibility.

• Personal character and integrity are non-negotiable., * Minimum 6 years of broad business and technical experience in information technology and management information systems
• At least 5 years of direct project management and people management experience
• Broad and current knowledge of business technology applications and IT trends, with a sound understanding of business processes and how to exploit technology in support of the business
• Expertise with data analysis and querying tools such as Python, SAS, or SQL; knowledge of programming languages, tools, and methodologies for data management
• Expertise with CRM solutions like Salesforce and Hubspot, ERP solutions like NetSuite and Tipalti, Content Management Solutions like Optimizely, and other comparable SaaS-based solutions
• Common certifications include ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) and PMP (Project Management Professional) and system administration or development certifications preferred
• Understanding of information and application security with an understanding of how to apply key principles across a portfolio
• Understanding of privacy obligations and how to setup applications to address them
• Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and gain buy-in from all levels of the organization, with excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
