Requirements

The Sr. Systems Engineer is a senior member of the Information Technology division, responsible for setting technical direction. This position required a mature individual, \u201chands-on,\u201d knowledgeable, forward-thinking, and always ready to go the extra mile. This position is primarily responsible for data center, digital infrastructure, connecting SAAS offerings to on-premises technology, SSL certificates, and University network (Central State University owns a class B IP network). The individual must be comfortable working independently and as part of a high-performing, collaborative environment while employing sound judgment and decision making. Under the general supervision of the CIO, the Sr. Systems Engineer with be responsible for: Various Windows/Red Hat server OS, VMware, HP servers, Nimble/Netapp SAN, Palo-Alto firewall, Aruba router/switches, Aruba AP, Aruba AP controllers, VLAN, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, SSO, Multi-Factor Authentication, SAML, Rapid Recovery backup, Avaya VoIP systems, MS 365, MS OneDrive and other technologies. The candidate is also responsible for hourly/daily backup, data restore in case of data corruption.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Experience with VMware, Linux and/or Windows platforms,management/troubleshooting.Experience with scripting software and enterprise tools (PowerShell or Python or Jenkins orAnsible) to automate system administration tasks and improve IT processes.Create, evaluate, and approve plans to implement new technology deployments andsystem/SAAS integration.Coordinate the evaluation of new technologies. Make recommendations based on theassessment of new technologies for their applicability to the client’s needs.Excellent analytical, critical thinking, & problem-solving abilities.May perform other general and/or related duties as assigned. After-hours and on-callservice may be expected.Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment.Performs and evaluates cost analyses and vendor comparisons of software/hardwaresystems to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations and measures feasibility of variousapproaches and makes recommendations.Helps to train and oversee the work of other systems engineering staff.Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills, including tact and diplomacy.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in computer science or related field plus ten years of progressive hands-on experience in an enterprise digital environment.Master’s degree in computer science or related field plus eight years of progressive hands-on experience in an enterprise digital environment is preferred.Proven technical experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software systems, applications, and related products.Proven technical experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices.Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws (especially FERPA and HIPPA).Experience with system performance monitoring & fine-tuning.Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.Ability to work in a team-oriented, self-directed, collaborative environment with technical and non-technical colleagues.Highly self-motivated with a strong work ethic.Adaptable, flexible, and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.Be proactive to a solution.Courteous, professional, and patient with the clients.Preferred Qualifications
