Job description

The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, securing, monitoring, and supporting the organization’s enterprise network infrastructure. This position ensures maximum network availability, performance, and security while providing Tier III technical support, leading infrastructure improvements, and collaborating with internal teams to deliver reliable technology solutions that support business operations.

The Network Engineer serves as a subject matter expert for network technologies and plays a critical role in maintaining business continuity, protecting company assets, and improving the overall end-user technology experience.

Duties:

  • Design, implement, maintain, and support secure, scalable network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, cloud, and intranet environments.
  • Install, configure, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, and network appliances.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute network upgrades, hardware replacements, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Develop scalable network solutions that align with organizational growth and technology strategies.
  • Maintain accurate network diagrams, documentation, inventories, and configuration records.

Network Operations:

  • Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity utilizing enterprise monitoring tools.
  • Perform proactive maintenance to maximize uptime and minimize service disruptions.
  • Troubleshoot complex network connectivity, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, wireless, and internet-related issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and business continuity initiatives.

Network Security:

    1. Implement and maintain network security best practices.
    1. Configure and mange firewalls, VPNs, ACLs, and network segmentation.
    1. Monitor infrastructure for security threats, vulnerabilities, and suspicious activity.
  • Assist with remediation activities following security assessments and audits.
  • Ensure compliance with company security standards and regulatory requirements.

Technical Support:

  • Serve as the Tier III escalation point for complex network-related incidents.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to Help Desk personnel.
  • Collaborate with desktop support, server administrators, cybersecurity teams, vendors, and third-party providers.
  • Participate in after-hours support during critical outages and scheduled maintenance windows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related network engineering, infrastructure, or systems support experience.
  • Strong knowledge of LAN, WAN, WLAN, cloud networking, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, subnetting, VLANs, and routing/switching concepts.
  • Experience with network security technologies such as firewalls, VPNs, ACLs, segmentation, antivirus, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark, PRTG, SNMP, NetFlow, and Syslog.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft server environments, Active Directory, virtualization, and core infrastructure services.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex network and systems issues, manage multiple priorities, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and relevant experience may be considered.

Certifications:

  • Cisco certification preferred, such as CCNA or higher.
  • Microsoft certification preferred, such as MCSE, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or related credential.
  • VMware certification preferred.
  • Additional network or security certifications, such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, CCNP, or equivalent, are a plus.
