Job description

BIOLASE MG is seeking an experienced Firmware Engineer to design, develop, and maintain embedded software for FDA-regulated medical devices. This role is responsible for firmware development, hardware integration, testing, and supporting laser-based medical systems while ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate has experience with real-time embedded systems, C/C++ programming, FreeRTOS, and Windows CE (WinCE) in a regulated development environment and enjoys collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams., * Develop, test, and maintain firmware for embedded systems used in FDA-regulated medical devices.

  • Design and implement embedded software using C/C++.
  • Develop firmware for ARM and 8051 microcontroller-based systems.
  • Develop and maintain embedded applications using FreeRTOS and Windows CE (WinCE).
  • Read and interpret hardware schematics to support firmware development and debugging.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve firmware and embedded hardware issues.
  • Utilize development tools including Code Composer Studio, Visual Studio, Embedded VC++ (WinCE Framework), and Atmel Studio.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support product development and firmware integration.
  • Document firmware design, testing, and implementation activities.
  • Support firmware development in accordance with company quality standards and regulated development practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of firmware or embedded software development experience.
  • Hands-on experience with FreeRTOS (required).
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems (ARM and 8051 microcontrollers).
  • Experience developing applications in Windows CE (WinCE).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical hardware schematics.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry, preferably within the medical device industry.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.

Nice to Have

  • Java or Android development experience.
  • GUI development for embedded or device applications.
  • Experience with laser systems or other safety-critical devices.
  • Familiarity with FDA Design Controls and/or IEC 62304., * Bachelor’s (Preferred)
