Job description

Director of Information Technology, In addition to adhering to the general guidelines as specified by the Faculty/Staff Handbook, Dean of Instruction, President and Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, responsibilities include the following:

  • Coordinate the training of personnel in the efficient usage of procedural and operational processes. (Users include administrative, staff, and instructional personnel.)
  • Supervise the maintenance of the college computer network, including installation, repair, or replacement of network hardware and cabling.
  • Responsible for the college website and Intranet; supervise the maintenance and content management system of the college website and intranet; ensure and coordinate training for webpage users; ensure an effective process for providing routine and day-to-day updates/approvals for webpage users.
  • Coordinate the delivery of information derived from the fiscal and student management system databases to college administrators upon request, with detailed and summary data as available from database queries and computer programming.
  • Recommend revisions to existing information systems.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of the college microcomputers, including installing software updates and repairing or replacing computer hardware.
  • Maintain and update the computer replacement plan for the college.
  • Maintain records to ensure compliance with licensing policies for computer software.
  • Provide justification in writing for major computer equipment purchases, as required.
  • Assist in preparing bids for computer equipment when required.
  • Prepare requisitions to purchase network hardware, computer hardware, software, supplies, and licensing as needed.
  • Develop and implement new strategies in telecommunications and information technology.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and assign work priorities for all personnel who report under this area of the college.
  • Develop a liaison between user departments and IT personnel.
  • Supervise the College-wide support and maintenance of the online instructional student inquiry system.
  • Coordinate and supervise staff that interact with Student Services Office, Business Office, and instructional personnel to develop and maintain student scheduling, student grades, grade reporting, transcripts, and registration.
  • Design and implement workshops and individualized training for all personnel of the College affected by system changes, such as hardware or software upgrades or enhancements.
  • Responsible for designing and implementing College standards for instructional technology.
  • Assist in developing and implementing a college-wide strategic plan for integrating instructional technology, including coordinating and monitoring the strategic planning goals and objectives for instructional technology.
  • Coordinate the development of all instructional technology training in implementing the comprehensive distance learning program of the College.
  • Develop and maintain the College-wide plan for the replacement and upgrade of instructional and administrative technology.
  • Lead and supervise all personnel who have job responsibilities in operating or maintaining instructional and administrative computer hardware and systems.
  • Supervise the support and maintenance of all college servers (DHCP, DNS, WEB, EMAIL, etc.).
  • Ensure that the system and the network are secure and that valuable or sensitive data is protected from undesired access.
  • Assign priorities to all issues processed for technical assistance through ticketing software. Provide a monthly report to the President on ticketing outcomes.
  • Oversee routine backups of Banner and all on-premises servers to ensure no data loss.
  • Administer and maintain the College-wide telecommunications system.
  • Recommend expenditure priorities and act as budget manager for the college’s technology budget.
  • Responsible for the management and training of the emergency notification system (School cast).
  • Serve as Chair of the Technology Advancement Committee and on other committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in CIS, Information Systems, Networking, or Related Field
  • Five (5) years of experience with the field of Information Technology or Computer Technology.
  • Five (5) years’ experience managing virtual server and network environments.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in use of computers, specifically Microsoft Office, * Five (5) years’ experience managing IT operations, including five (5) years’ experience in managing personnel.
  • Three (3) years higher education IT experience
  • Experience managing and configuring Meraki network gear.
  • Experience monitoring and managing VMware virtual environments.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory and group policy management.
  • IT project management experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and administrative computing systems.
  • Ability to communicate by using PC, telephone, and written media.
