Job description

Position Title:Lead Systems Engineer - Network Management System (Microwave Radios), Job Summary:Microwave Networks is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Lead Systems Engineer to define, architect, and oversee the development of a Network Management System (NMS) designed to monitor, control, and optimize microwave radio networks. This role includes defining and transforming system-level requirements into detailed software specifications and guiding a multidisciplinary engineering team through the design, development, integration, and testing phases.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

System Architecture & Design

· Define system-level architecture and functional requirements for an NMS that manages microwave radio networks, including fault, configuration, accounting, performance, and security (FCAPS) functions.

· Develop detailed technical specifications, interface definitions, and data models for managing microwave radios and related network elements.

· Ensure scalability, reliability, and security in system design to support large network deployments.

Technical Leadership

· Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, providing technical direction and guidance throughout the development lifecycle.

· Coordinate across hardware, firmware, and software development teams to ensure seamless integration with radio systems.

· Conduct design and code reviews to ensure adherence to best practices and standards.

Project Management

· Collaborate with project managers to define project scope, milestones, and deliverables.

· Track progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure timely delivery.

· Interface with internal stakeholders and customers to gather requirements and demonstrate progress.

Software Development Oversight

· Oversee implementation of network monitoring, alarm correlation, root cause analysis, and performance analytics modules.

· Define APIs and communication protocols (e.g., SNMP, NETCONF/YANG, REST) for integration with microwave radios and third-party systems.

· Guide the development of data visualization dashboards and user interfaces for network operators.

Testing & Validation

· Define and oversee system integration testing, acceptance testing, and performance validation.

· Ensure the NMS meets reliability, latency, and throughput requirements under real-world network conditions.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

Experience:

· 7+ years of experience in network systems engineering or software development for telecommunications systems.

· Proven experience in leading software engineering teams and delivering complex network management or OSS/BSS solutions.

· Strong understanding of microwave radio systems, network protocols, and IP-based communications.

Technical Skills:

· Deep knowledge of SNMP, NETCONF/YANG, REST APIs, and related network management protocols.

· Familiarity with FCAPS management and ITU-T/TMN standards.

· Experience with modern software stacks (e.g., Python, Java, C++, or Go), cloud-native architectures, and database systems (SQL/NoSQL).

· Understanding of data analytics, machine learning for performance prediction, and root cause analysis is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with microwave radio product lines or wireless transport systems.
  • Familiarity with predictive analytics, AI-driven fault detection, and network optimization techniques.
