Job description
Our client is seeking a Director of Technology to lead the company’s technology function and the team behind it. This is a new leadership role that sets our client’s strategy, owns the full technology stack, and keeps the systems that run the business secure, reliable, and pointed at where the company is headed. Reporting to the President, the Director of IT manages our client’s IT Systems Engineer, IT Project Manager, and 3rd party vendors. The role turns needs from across accounting, sales, marketing, logistics, and operations into a clear technological roadmap, then makes sure it gets delivered. It calls for someone who balances vision and execution: setting direction, managing budgets and vendors, and staying close enough to the work to keep projects on time and on budget. Our client’s core platforms include Epicor Prophet 21 (ERP), HubSpot (CRM), Rippling (HRIS), and Microsoft Azure, supported by analytics and reporting tools including Phocas. The Director of Technology owns how these systems fit together and where they go next, across headquarters, remote sites, and a distributed workforce., * Set IT vision and strategy and build a roadmap that supports company growth and
priorities.
- Lead and develop the IT team, currently the IT Systems Engineer and IT Project Manager,
setting goals, standards, and priorities.
- Own full technology stack, internal and external, and decide what is handled in-house
versus by outside partners.
- Make sure IT projects are scoped, staffed, and delivered on time and on budget, from
upgrades and migrations to new system rollouts.
- Oversee Epicor Prophet 21 and the systems connected to it, keeping the ERP stable, secure,
and aligned with how client runs orders, inventory, purchasing, and shipping.
- Own the IT budget, forecast technology spend, and tie investments to business outcomes.
- Manage vendor and service-provider relationships, negotiate contracts, and hold outside
partners accountable for cost, quality, and timelines.
- Set and enforce security, access, and data-protection standards across all systems and
locations.
- Establish backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans, and confirm they are tested
and current.
- Work with leadership to translate business goals into technology decisions and keep them
current on progress, risks, and spend.
- Set policies and standards for systems, data, documentation, and IT support across every
location.
- Identify automation and process-improvement opportunities, and turn the strongest into
funded, scoped initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a
related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 8+ years of IT experience, including several in a leadership or management role.
- Proven experience owning an IT function or department, including strategy, budgets, and
team management.
- Track record delivering business-system projects on time and on budget, ideally including ERP
and CRM work.
- Experience managing vendors, consultants, and managed service providers.
Leadership and Technical Skills
- People leadership: hires, develops, and gets the best from a small technical team.
- Fluency across cloud-based business applications, data management, and system integration.
- Working knowledge of ERP platforms, ideally distribution ERP such as Epicor Prophet 21.
- Understanding of infrastructure, networking, identity and access, and security fundamentals.
- Comfort with reporting and analytics tools such as Phocas and Power BI.
- Working knowledge of SQL and Python for querying data, building reports, and automating
tasks.
- Budgeting, contract negotiation, and vendor management.
- Clear communicator who translates technology into business terms for leadership and staff., * Experience in an industrial, distribution, or wholesale environment.
- Hands-on background with Epicor Prophet 21 or a comparable distribution ERP.
- Project management or IT certifications such as PMP, ITIL, or CISSP.
- Experience leading ERP or CRM implementations, migrations, or integrations.
- Experience supporting onsite and remote workforces.
