Job description

Looking for a hands-on Linux & HPC Engineer to join a elite Cloud Engineering group supporting high-performance scientific computing platforms. You’ll work alongside a Senior HPC SME to support quantitative researchers, data scientists, and modelers, while helping drive a massive modernization initiative.

This isn’t just an operational support role-you’ll actively execute platform migrations, upgrade cutting-edge GPU clusters, and streamline HPC workflows., * Support Quantitative End-Users: Triage and resolve Altair Grid Engine job scheduling, queue management, and Linux environment issues (Spack, Python, R, permissions).

  • Drive Modernization & Migrations: Help lead a CentOS 7 * RHEL 9 migration across 400+ developer tools and support VM migration to Nutanix.
  • Hardware & GPU Upgrades: Assist with rolling out next-gen compute (NVIDIA B200 / RTX Pro) at UK data center sites.
  • Operational Excellence: Maintain runbooks, manage patch cycles/CVEs, and establish robust change-control hygiene.

Requirements

  • 8+ Years in Linux Systems: Deep expertise in RHEL, CentOS, or Rocky Linux environments.
  • HPC Expertise: Solid understanding of cluster job schedulers (Altair Grid Engine / SGE preferred), parallel filesystems (GPFS/Spectrum Scale), and GPU workloads.
  • Scripting & Automation: Strong Bash capabilities (Python and Ansible are a major plus).
  • Migration Experience: Familiarity with migrating HPC toolchains, Spack module builds, or OS upgrades.
  • UK-Based: Flexible remote setup, but must be available for occasional visits to London (Telehouse) data centers.

Nice to Haves

  • Nutanix / VMware virtualization experience
  • CUDA / InfiniBand setup experience
  • Exposure to Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, or enterprise backup platforms
