Job description

We are seeking a Sr. Android Software Engineer to design, develop, and support enterprise-scale mobile applications that power critical customer and operational experiences. This role is primarily focused on native Android development using Kotlin and Java, while also partnering with backend and platform teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing mobile solutions.

The ideal candidate brings deep Android expertise, strong software engineering fundamentals, and experience building commercial-grade mobile applications. You will work closely with Product, UX, QA, and Engineering teams to deliver innovative mobile experiences that integrate with RESTful APIs, cloud services, and enterprise systems.

Candidates should have experience with modern Android architecture, CI/CD practices, testing frameworks, performance optimization, and Agile development methodologies. Experience working with Android hardware, POS devices, and cloud-native environments is highly desirable.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional Android application development experience
  • Extensive Android development experience using Kotlin and Java
  • Strong understanding of Android OS, Android SDK, application lifecycle, and mobile development best practices
  • Experience designing, developing, and implementing scalable mobile applications
  • Strong Object-Oriented Analysis, Design, and Development experience
  • Experience integrating mobile applications with RESTful APIs and backend services
  • Experience with local storage technologies including SQLite, Room, RDBMS, NoSQL, and Android persistence frameworks
  • Experience with Git, GitHub, GitLab, source control best practices, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong understanding of HTTP protocols, web services, and mobile integration patterns
  • Experience working within Agile environments using tools such as Jira
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and testing experience
  • Solid Computer Science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and software design principles

Required Education

  • Bachelor’’s degree or 17 years of experience

Preferred Skills

  • Experience developing applications for POS devices, payment terminals, kiosks, or specialty Android hardware
  • Experience integrating third-party SDKs and vendor-provided mobile solutions
  • AWS or other cloud development experience
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, AppDynamics, New Relic, or Datadog
  • Experience with mobile analytics and crash reporting tools including Firebase Crashlytics
  • Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles and operational best practices
  • Experience with backend technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, or Python

Benefits & conditions

Contract: W2 only, 7 month contract with potential for extension or conversion to full time with either the client or CEI Pay: $70-75/hour + optional medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match
