Job description

The Application Engineer II will design, configure, and support building automation and control solutions for commercial and industrial facilities. This role focuses on implementing Building Management Systems (BMS/BAS), integrating HVAC and other building subsystems, developing Tridium Niagara applications, troubleshooting field issues, and collaborating with project teams to deliver reliable, efficient automation solutions. The ideal candidate combines hands-on controls experience with strong communication skills to translate customer requirements into robust control strategies., * Develop, configure, and commission building automation system applications using Tridium Niagara and related platforms.

  • Design and implement control strategies for HVAC systems, lighting, metering, and other building subsystems within a BMS/BAS environment.
  • Create and maintain graphics, points databases, control logic, schedules, and alarm management for building automation projects.
  • Perform on-site startup, testing, and troubleshooting of BAS controllers, networks, and field devices to ensure system functionality and performance.
  • Collaborate with sales, project management, and field service teams to scope projects, produce technical documentation, and provide application support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide end-user training, technical support, and documentation for clients and commissioning teams.
  • Integrate third-party systems and devices using BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, Niagara drivers, and other common protocols.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by developing reusable application templates, libraries, and standard operating procedures.
  • Analyze system performance data to recommend energy-saving measures, optimizations, and remedial actions.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety practices, and project schedules while supporting warranty and postcommissioning activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with building automation systems (BAS/BMS) and HVAC control applications; experience in an Application Engineer or Controls Engineer role .
  • Proven experience with Tridium Niagara framework (Niagara AX or Niagara 4) including station development, modules, drivers, and system integration.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC control sequences, control valves, VAV/RTU/Chiller systems, and field devices such as sensors, actuators, and controllers.
  • Experience with communications protocols including BACnet, Modbus, and common BAS network topologies.
  • Familiarity with BAS graphics design, alarm management, point naming conventions, and database management.
  • Ability to perform on-site commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer training; valid drivers license and willingness to travel to job sites.
  • Excellent problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills; able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and customers.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Niagara certification, BMS/controls manufacturer certifications, HVAC or energy-related credentials) are a plus.
