Job description

Founded in 2024, acemate has quickly become the leading AI learning platform for higher and further education, trusted by top-tier institutions across four countries, including TU Munich, University of Cologne, WHU and the German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (IHKs).

  • Our Mission: Democratizing access to personalized learning. We don’t believe that AI will replace educators. Instead, we empower them to design and deliver personalized learning experiences at scale.
  • Our Growth: We’ve raised pre-seed funding and are growing rapidly. While we focus on higher and further education in the DACH area today, we’re already expanding into new regions and markets.
  • Our Culture: We’re a young, driven team passionate about tackling the toughest challenges in education. We embrace builder culture and minimize scheduled meetings for ad-hoc discussions and maximized focus on coding and creating.

Tasks

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll take significant ownership of our app’s architecture and user experience. You’ll make the key calls on architecture, state management, API integration and performance monitoring, together with the engineers who built the rest of our platform. The API is stable, the backend is mature and most of the feature logic is already proven in our responsive web version, so you’re building the mobile layer on a system that works rather than starting from zero. It also means the app won’t be a 1:1 copy of the web product, and figuring out what mobile should actually be is a large part of the job.

  • Own the product beyond the interface: You’ll take full accountability for your features end to end. That means managing complex local state, building smooth user journeys and ensuring native-level performance. You’ll write, ship and iterate on your own code.
  • Design scalable, smart architecture: You’ll build a robust mobile foundation using patterns like MVVM or TCA that connect seamlessly with our Effect-based backend and AI systems. Expect to take on tough engineering challenges around real-time synchronization, offline-first capabilities and streaming AI responses.
  • Keep the technical bar high: You’ll track down and fix performance issues like sluggish render cycles or slow app startup times. At the same time, you’ll push for better maintainability, strict type safety and a consistent UX across the codebase.

Tech Stack

  • Mobile: TypeScript, React Native, Expo
  • Backend & data: Effect-based TypeScript services, Supabase (PostgreSQL)
  • Infrastructure: Cloudflare (Workers, Pages, Workflows, R2, KV), Google Cloud (Gemini, Cloud Run)
  • Tools: Sentry, Langfuse, PostHog, Stripe, BetterStack

If you don’t know every tool here from day one, that’s fine. We trust your ability to pick things up quickly.

Requirements

  • Solid experience with TypeScript and React Native, including apps you’ve shipped to the stores and maintained afterwards. You know what OTA updates, native module issues and a rejected store review feel like in practice.
  • End-to-End Ownership: You don’t throw things over the wall. You own your features until they’re running successfully in production and used by real learners.
  • Not a lone wolf: You’ll be our main mobile person, but you won’t be working in isolation. You’ll sit close to the backend and product engineers, and you should enjoy defending your technical decisions and changing your mind when someone makes a better case.
  • Startup experience: You’re at home in fast-paced, evolving environments.
  • Balanced AI approach: You knew how to code before Cursor and Claude Code, but you understand how to put them to good use.
  • Product passion: Strong identification with our mission to transform education.

Benefits & conditions

  • Competitive salary package including an equity component
  • Fully covered Deutschlandticket
  • BusinessBike (bike or e-bike via leasing, private use included)
  • A nice office in the heart of Berlin with snacks, drinks and an office dog
  • Working in a small but driven team built around performance and learning
  • Flexible environment with a high degree of autonomy
  • Regular team events and acemate parties!
