The position requires a multidisciplinary approach to systems engineering, supported by engineering expertise, critical thinking, and collaboration with multiple internal and external partners.
This role includes interfacing with various internal organizations, as well as the Pantex Production Agency, U.S. Navy and Air Force, and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) customers, to ensure the successful integration of Department of Energy (DOE) systems into service.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Be the main point of contact for Weapon Production programs (i.e.W76-1/2 939, W88 ALT 940, MTAD integration) activity needs identified by System level counterparts at the CNS/Pantex Plant (Pantex);
- Author and improve Product Specifications, Specific Use Specification, Weapon Safety Specification documents, as needed;
- Collaborate with Weapons Response, Pantex, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and Lockheed Martin counterparts on improvements to Pantex procedures;
- Support inter-site logistics planning and actions to ensure Pantex is driving the Weapon System results;
- Provide status briefings to National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and DOD partners, as needed, and during management reviews;
- Monitor and support components and hardware being shipped to Pantex in support of Pantex production;
- Team with counterparts at LANL to ensure high-production readiness levels and effective problem solving;
- Coordinate with Systems Surveillance with respect to hardware provisioning in support of the weapon system state of health monitoring;
- Update SNL management on production and First Production Unit status;
- Support ongoing production and support resolving technical issues as they occur;
- Provide system expertise and engineering authorizations to minimize impact of production interruptions at Pantex.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to travel to Pantex frequently or work onsite in Amarillo, TX and travel to Albuquerque, NM., Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
