team is responsible for the Rover platform’s overall performance, scalability, and reliability.We use observability tools, investigative skills, and data to help our engineering teams deliver a stable, reliable, and robust experience for our owners and sitters.We are part of the Platform Engineering division.As such, we work broadly across the company, serving many partners and requiring exceptional partner communication and relationship building.What we are looking forWe are looking for aDatabase Engineer or a Database Reliability Engineerto join our team in Barcelona.You will be responsible for ensuring the stability and performance of our PostgreSQL and MySQL environments while building self?service automation tools.You will work closely with our lead Database engineer to manage Rover’s tables and end?to?end data flows.You will partner with developers across Rover to review migrations and analyze and optimize database performance.You will work within the SRE team to build your experience in Python and Django for automation and model tuning.Please note that this role is part of a cross?regional team and may require some flexibility in working hours to ensure good alignment with the rest of the team.We follow a hybrid model (Mondays & Thursdays in our office in Poblenou, Barcelona).Key ResponsibilitiesManage core database operations, including user access, instance scaling, and performance tuningLead major and minor database upgradesDesign and test backup strategies to ensure we can restore data quickly with almost no downtimeCollaborate with developers on schema migrations and query tuningUse Datadog/Cloudwatch to monitor system health and set up alertingManage compliance requirementsParticipate in on?call rotations to provide 24/7 support for critical systemsTroubleshoot complex production issues and perform root cause analysis and resolutionDevelop database standards to improve site stability and reduce the blast radius of incidentsBuild and maintain self?service tools, such as our Automated Data Model Change approval toolingDesign Terraform for management of RDS infrastructure and deployment through AtlantisDevelop automation scripts using Python to assist in Django migration issues and model tuningYour Qualifications And SkillsYou have 3?5 years of experience as a Database AdministratorYou have experience managing databases in a cloud native environment (preferably AWS RDS)You have 4+ years of hands?on experience managing production environments with PostgreSQL and/or MySQLYou have a strong focus on scripting and automation and have proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (e.g., Python)You are proficient with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform or CDK)Familiarity with monitoring tools like Datadog/Cloudwatch or ELK stackBonus: Having the skill to use AI tools to assist with coding or monitoring is a great advantageBonus: Familiarity with database integration with an ORM, preferably
