Senior Platform Engineer (Backend)

At Verisk Med, you’ll join the Platform Team working on a digital claims platform that supports insurance processes across multiple countries and business areas. This is a backend- and platform-focused senior engineering role with real influence on architecture, technical standards, quality and how the team works together. You won’t just deliver features. You’ll help shape how the platform grows, scales and stays reliable over time. You’ll also use modern AI tools such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot in a thoughtful way to improve development, testing, refactoring and documentation. Responsibilities: You’ll build modern backend and platform solutions

• You’ll build and evolve NestJS backend services, APIs and file-processing pipelines.

• You’ll design event-driven workflows using RabbitMQ and create reliable technical flows.
• You’ll own service integrations, API contracts and event schemas across a microservices architecture.
• You’ll design and optimize PostgreSQL data models and database queries.

You’ll take technical ownership

• You’ll lead technical design and architectural decisions for new platform capabilities.

• You’ll contribute to core platform topics such as permissions, document services and shared infrastructure.
• You’ll make sure solutions support multi-tenant requirements and remain configuration-driven.
• You’ll improve reliability, observability, testing and operational excellence.

You’ll strengthen engineering quality and collaboration

• You’ll mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions and technical coaching.

• You’ll work closely with frontend engineers while keeping your main focus on backend and platform engineering.
• You’ll communicate technical topics clearly and help the team make sound engineering decisions.
• You’ll support small, reviewable changes, clear technical contracts and strong code quality.

You’ll use AI-assisted engineering responsibly

• You’ll use Claude Code, GitHub Copilot and similar tools for development, testing and refactoring.

• You’ll apply AI tools responsibly to explore codebases faster and improve documentation.
• You’ll help introduce pragmatic AI-assisted engineering practices within the team.

Must-have

• Strong backend experience with Node.js, TypeScript and modern API-based architectures.

• Experience building production microservices, distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
• Solid knowledge of PostgreSQL, data modelling and performant database structures.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD workflows and quality-focused software development.
• Ability to lead technical initiatives, make architectural decisions and coach other engineers.
• Strong English communication skills and the ability to explain technical topics clearly and confidently.

Nice-to-have

• Experience as a Tech Lead, Staff Engineer or in a similar role with platform ownership.

• Hands-on experience with RabbitMQ, Kafka, SQS or other messaging and event systems.
• Experience with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform or modern cloud and platform engineering setups.
• Knowledge of OIDC, Keycloak, Okta or similar identity and access management solutions.
• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS platforms, regulated industries or AI-assisted engineering in a team setting.
