Job description

  • We develop embedded and real-time software in C and modern C++.
  • We work on Linux system development, including Yocto and Debian.
  • We build software for 16- and 32-bit microcontrollers such as ARM, PIC, MSP430, and DSP platforms.
  • We integrate standard communications interfaces including Ethernet, USB, RS232, I2C, and SPI.
  • We control and integrate wireless modules such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LoRa, and NFC.
  • We debug, fault-find, and improve the reliability and performance of embedded systems.
  • We produce customer-ready documentation, test evidence, and reports.
  • We evaluate and introduce new tools, techniques, and processes where useful.
  • We take ideas from early concept through prototype and into production.
  • We work closely with engineers and customers across the full development lifecycle.

This is a hands-on senior role where we take ideas from early concept through prototype and into production, working closely with both engineers and customers. We offer the opportunity to contribute across architecture, implementation, testing, debugging, and customer-facing documentation on technically demanding projects, often under tight timelines.

Requirements

  • We require 5+ years developing embedded and real-time systems.
  • We require strong commercial experience with modern C++ and C.
  • We require exposure to embedded Linux development, such as Yocto, Debian, or similar.
  • We require confidence with embedded communications protocols and typical hardware interfaces.
  • We require strong engineering practices, including clean code, a testing mindset, and best-practice development.
  • We require good communication skills for both internal and customer-facing work.
  • We require a bachelors degree in Software Engineering or a related field.
  • We require the right to work in the UK, as sponsorship is not available.
  • Nice to have: RTOS experience such as FreeRTOS.
  • Nice to have: object-oriented design experience.
  • Nice to have: Windows / C# experience.
  • Nice to have: security, crypto, or TLS stack experience.
  • Nice to have: Android or iOS app experience.
  • Nice to have: DSP algorithms and image/video capture and processing experience.
